What is Sendai Airport Like?

Sendai Airport is located in Miyagi Prefecture, straddling Natori City and Iwanuma City. It stands as the largest airport in the area, and acts as an indispensable tourist base for the entire region. As such, it offers a full range of convenient services for both domestic and international travelers alike.
The number of international flights is increasing by the year. The Taipei route runs daily, the Seoul route runs on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and the Dalian and Beijing routes run on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Types of Transport Available at Sendai Airport
Sendai Airport offers several options of transportation to get to your destination, varying in price, travel time, and convenience. Below is a list of the available transportation types, with a quick outline of how to get to each one from the Arrivals Gate. Select the best choice for you based on your travel needs and preferences.
1. Taking the Train

There are several trains servicing Sendai Airport. For a budget-friendly option, consider taking a train to your destination.
- Exit from International Arrivals Gate
- Take Exit 4, straight ahead
- Continue until you reach the escalator (on your left)
- Head to 2F and continue straight
- Cross connecting bridge to Sendai Airport Station (on your left)
- Turn right at end of bridge
- There you'll find the Sendai Airport Station ticket gate


2. Taking the Bus

There are several buses servicing Sendai Airport, as well as sightseeing buses. Buses are a budget-friendly option; however, please be mindful when traveling with large luggage.
Note that the previously available Limousine Buses have been indefinitely suspended since March 2024, and have not yet resumed operation. Please see official bus website for more details.

3. Taking a Taxi

If you prefer a more direct and convenient mode of transportation, we recommend taking a taxi. This is especially recommended for those with bulky luggage. Many taxis now also accept credit cards and e-money.
You'll find the taxi stand just past Exit 4 to the right.
- Prices may vary by company, but expect to spend between 5,000–13,000 yen, depending on your destination.
- Late night rides (between 10 PM–5 AM) may incur additional 20% fee

4. Renting a Car

For the most convenient option, especially if you plan to explore the greater Tohoku region, consider renting a car. Car rental shops are scattered throughout the airport, with the rental car service counter on the first floor. For more information on the services and fees, see the Rental Car section below.

Before You Leave the Airport: Visit Michinoku Tourist Information Center

Before you leave the airport, we recommend stopping by the Michinoku Tourist Information area, just past the International Arrivals Gate on the right side of the building. Here, you can find plenty of useful information on sightseeing in Sendai, as well as purchase tickets to other forms of sightseeing-related transportation.

Getting from Sendai Airport to Sendai City
Now that you’ve decided which mode of transportation to take, it’s time to head to your destination. Below is a list of transportation options to get you from Sendai Airport to Sendai City, the primary tourist hub of Miyagi Prefecture. JR Sendai Station, located in the heart of the city, serves as a key point of access for Miyagi Prefecture and other areas of the Tohoku Region.
1. By Train from Sendai Airport to Sendai

The easiest way to get to Sendai City is by train. It's more punctual than other modes of transportation, and with a direct route from Sendai Airport Station to JR Sendai Station (via the Sendai Airport Access Line), you don't even have to worry about transfers.
Getting there:
- Ride Sendai Airport Access Line to Sendai Airport Station (directly connected to Sendai Airport Terminal Building 2F).
- Purchase a ticket to JR Sendai Station.
- Ticket machines are available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
- Time required:
25 minutes by regular train / 17 minutes by rapid train - Cost (One-Way):
Adults: 660 yen / Children: 330 yen(6-12 years) / Under 6: Free (up to two per adult; third child requires a child ticket)
2. By Bus from Sendai Airport to Sendai

As mentioned above, the previously available Limousine Buses have been indefinitely suspended since March 2024, and have not yet resumed operation. However, there are several regular buses servicing Sendai Airport, as well as sightseeing buses.

3. By Rental Car

For those who wish for hassle-free sightseeing, not bound by time restrictions, we recommend renting a car. Reservations can be made in advance for an even smoother process.
Getting there:
- Go to Rental Car service counter (1F).
- Complete necessary procedures there.
- From there, ride the courtesy car from the airport to the rental shop to get your car.

2. Sendai Castle Ruins

The Sendai Castle Ruins is the former site of the Sendai Clan's castle, known for its statue of Lord Date Masamune mounted on his horse.
You will need to take two buses to get there: the Sendai Airport Access Line, and the Loople Sendai Sightseeing Bus. (Detailed instructions below.)
Important to Note:
The Loople Sendai Bus requires exact fare (or an IC card/one-day pass), and is paid as you get off the bus. We recommend preparing exact change in advance, or purchasing/charging an IC card before boarding. As mentioned above, you can also buy a special one-day Loople Sendai ticket at the Michinoku Tourist Information Center at the airport.

The smoothest way to get to Mitsui Outlet Park Sendai Port, a shopping facility where you can buy clothes and miscellaneous goods at great prices, is by car.
