Sendai is a lovely place to visit during the spring season when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the temperature is pleasantly warm.
If you are planning a visit to Sendai during March, April, or May, a local writer has provided some useful tips and advice on the climate, clothing, and sightseeing spots that you should consider. This guide will help you plan your trip with ease and make the most of your time in Sendai.
What kind of area is Sendai and what's the climate usually like?
Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region. Located on a plain beside the Pacific Ocean, it's pleasant to visit all-year-round. Also, although the Tohoku region is generally very cold, Sendai is warmer and has less snow than other cities, in winter. However, the sea breeze keeps it cool (or cold) in the morning and evening throughout the year.
Even in the warm and comfortable spring, March still feels chilly, even during the day. However, the temperature rises in April and the weather gets warmer from there.
What are the recommended sightseeing spots and plans for spring in Sendai?
Throughout the season, there are different recommended sightseeing spots, depending on the temperatures, weather, and events taking place.
Let's take a look at some recommendations for the months of March, April, and May.

March may not feel like full-blown spring in Sendai and on colder days, it is recommended to use public transportation like the subway or bus. If you're fond of history, you should explore some places related to Sendai's first feudal lord, Date Masamune.

To make the most of your trip, you can easily move around several places by using the Loople Sendai bus.
If you take the Municipal Subway Tozai Line from Sendai Station, and get off at Yagiyama Zoological Park Station, which is about 12 minutes away, you will find a zoo and an amusement park within a 5-minute walk. This is a perfect destination for sightseeing with your family.
