1. Fatburger: Affordable and super sumptuous monster-size burgers
Located just a minute's walk from the Hachiko Exit of Shibuya Station on the JR Lines is MAGNET by SHIBUYA109, a shopping mall selling just about everything under the sun. On the seventh floor is a sprawling food court by the name of MAG7 where our first recommendation, the popular eatery Fatburger sits in wait for ravenous shoppers to swing by and try out their irresistible monster burgers. This is a branch of the Fatburger store that first opened in Los Angeles in the year 1952!
Shibuya's Fatburger store is the first shop out of the food chain's approximately 200 branches worldwide to open on Japan's shores. Order an "Original Burger (680 yen, tax excluded)" as a base and add your favorite toppings and dressings for a burger that's uniquely yours. Or if you just want the best burger the store has to offer without mulling over the abundance of choices for too long, then the "US King Burger (2,560 yen, tax excluded)" will be just perfect for you! Made with the "Original Burger" as its base and stuffed with six succulent meat patties and a generous amount of cheese toppings, this eye-catching and humongous burger is the face of the shop and countless hungry souls regularly flock here for the satisfying meal it provides.

2. The World's Second Best Melon Pan Ice-Cream
Yes, you read that right. The second best melon pan (sweet bread topped with cookie dough) in the world is available for takeout at from a shop located an 8-minute walk from Shibuya Station on the JR Lines through Kōen Street. "Why not the world's best?" you may be wondering. Whatever the reason for their naming choice, this attention-grabbing title has certainly served its purpose well by drawing many curious visitors to its doors!
Part of the shop's popularity comes from having been featured in countless media articles. The signature product here is its namesake - freshly baked "Melon Pan Ice-Cream" stuffed with dessert and snacks like, well, ice-cream! Choose to go with vanilla, chocolate, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream, or other interesting flavors, all for a very reasonable price of 400 yen including tax.

3. Nanashi Shibuya Dōgenzaka: Tonkotsu ramen with a twist
What says Shibuya-lunch better than some authentic Japanese ramen? A short 2-minute walk from Shibuya Station on the JR Lines just after turning into Dōgenzaka is Nanashi Shibuya Dōgenzaka, a ramen shop that has won praise for its full-flavored tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen from customers who don't even like tonkotsu!
You should especially have your eye on the shop's "Nanashi Ramen With All Toppings (1,155 yen, tax included)", which has had any scum on the soup broth carefully scooped out to remove any impurities that may affect its exquisite taste. After all, this broth was boiled over a strong fire for more than 10 hours to achieve its luxurious texture! The noodles that come along with this fantastic broth are thick noodles, a departure from the thin noodles that are usually paired with rich and smooth tonkotsu soup. The soup served by the shop wafts with a fragrance that is free from any distracting smells other than the aroma of great-tasting ramen!

4. Genki Sushi: Authentic sushi chain that's popular around the world
You haven't really visited Japan until you've tasted some authentic local sushi, so hop over to Genki Sushi for the real deal! With 156 stores open in Japan and over 200 stores overseas, this popular restaurant is a familiar sight even to non-Japanese visitors, and many of them continue to patronize the store when they happen to be in Japan. The Shibuya branch of Genki Sushi is accessible within a 4-minute walk from the Hachiko Exit of Shibuya Station serving a number of railway lines.
Although technically a conveyor belt sushi store, the Shibuya branch of Genki Sushi doesn't simply place random sushi on its belts for customers to pick and choose at their convenience. Instead, the shop will take each person's order, then send the freshly-made sushi to the table using the belts to ensure maximum freshness. Popular items on the restaurant's menu are tuna sushi, salmon sushi, cheese fries, spring rolls, and other such finger food.

5. Gyukatsu Miyashita: Cheap lunch sets containing beef cutlets
In the last few years, there's been a rise in gyukatsu (beef cutlet) specialty stores in Japan, and some stores offer such great food that long queues inevitably start forming at around lunch time. This is especially true of Beef Cutlet Miyashita, because of its attractive lunch sets available at very reasonable prices. The shop is also located a convenient 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station on the JR Lines, another reason for its great popularity.
Beef Cutlet Miyashita uses a unique water fryer for their cutlets. As the name suggests, this is a deep-frying method that uses oil and water and prevents crumb remnants from accumulating in the oil used for frying. This keeps the taste of the deep-fried meat as refreshing as it would be if the chef had completely changed the oil in between every frying session. The signature "Beef Cutlet Set Meal (1,200 yen)" can be enhanced by adding more ingredients like "Grated Yam (1,400 yen)" or "Onsen Egg (1,400 yen)" on top of the base set, all of which come highly recommended by us!

6. Kagurazaka Saryō Shibuya Scramble Square: The finest matcha parfait this side of Shibuya
Directly connected to Shibuya Station, Shibuya Scramble Square is a commercial building that opened in 2019 to the great excitement of Shibuya regulars. On the 14th floor of the mall is Kagurazaka Saryō, a cafe that had its roots in a small shop tucked away in the alleyways of Kagurazaka. This is its first branch in the Shibuya area.
Other than their excellent Japanese lunch offerings, the shop is renowned for its Japanese-style, tea-based desserts. If you order a "Japanese Tea Set (1,540 yen, tax included)" or "Matcha or Gyokuro Tea Set (1,650 yen, tax included)", you'll be served an adorably designed matcha parfait to go along with your exquisite tea. The 14th floor of the building is also connected to an observatory that features a spectacular view of Shibuya's streetscapes from high up!

7. Nanaya: Matcha gelato with seven levels of richness
If you're the type with a sweet tooth that activates after a satisfying meal, you may want to consider getting some matcha ice-cream available at a teahouse after lunch. Specifically, Nanaya Aoyama, a teahouse that can be reached with a 7-minute walk from the Miyamasuzaka Exit of Shibuya Station on the JR Lines. The ice-cream being sold here won second place in Japan's gelato contest, so you're guaranteed access to one of the best matcha gelatos in Japan at this amazing shop!
The best part about the gelato here is the freedom of customization it makes available to customers. Choose from seven levels of richness for your matcha gelato - from lightly flavored to extra thick. The top level, known as "Premium No. 7", gives you a matcha ice-cream that's so rich, the ice-cream is a luxuriant dark green color. Despite appearances, the taste of matcha never becomes overbearing, and there's still a tinge of sweetness to be found. This may be the richest matcha dessert you'll ever be able to find, so don't miss it if you're in the area!

8. Maison Able Cafe Ron Ron: 40-minute all-you-can-eat buffet of cute desserts on conveyor belts!
Located a short 3-minute walk from Meiji-Jingumae Station on the Tokyo Metro, this interesting restaurant features the familiar conveyor belt system with a unique twist - instead of sushi, the belts serve sweets and dessert! The entry price of 2,100 yen for ladies, 2,400 yen for men, 1,700 yen for children, and 500 yen for preschool minors is for a 40-minute, all-you-can-eat buffet of any tempting snack you can find on the belts. All prices are inclusive of taxes.
The conveyor belt in the middle of the shop stretches out for a length of 38 meters (about 124 feet) and has quite a powerful presence. Each snack is placed on a dish before being sent off on its journey around the shop, and you'll find 25 different types of tasty food on the menu, from cute-looking desserts to filling sandwiches and potato salads. All treats have been carefully cut down to bite-sizes for convenient snacking, and this allows customers to try out all the available types of dessert they can during their visit!

9. 365 Days: Only uses the best Japanese wheat and ingredients for their bread
Little known fact about Shibuya's thriving food scene: It's a baker's battlefield out there! There is an astoundingly high number of bakeries here, each using well-honed techniques to create the freshest and best-tasting bread in order to vie for the attention of the sophisticated Shibuya crowd. Some bakeries also have eat-in spaces, such as 365 Days, our recommendation. It helps that the shop is a very short 1-minute walk from the South Exit of Yoyogihachiman Station on the Odakyu Lines. If you'll be using the JR Lines, it's a quick bus ride or a slightly longer walk away - not that the additional hassle has ever stopped visitors from flocking to this popular shop!
The mission of 356 Days is to present the best of Japanese bread to the world, and that's why they only use bread baked with Japanese-grown wheat. All the other carefully selected ingredients used in the baking process are organic as well, so customers can buy whatever they fancy with absolute peace of mind. An example of how serious they are about providing organic food is that the shop makes its own bacon and ham, because the ones that can be bought off-the-shelf are usually processed with additives and preservatives. Talk about commitment to the cause!
Near the bakery is its sister shop, a cafe by the name of "15℃". Needless to mention, the bread from 356 Days are prominently featured in their menu as well.

10. Pepper Parlor: How to mix waffles, vegan meals, and robots successfully
Our final recommendation is Pepper Parlor, an interesting concept shop that opened in December 2019 on the fifth floor of Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, a commercial complex. In this cafe, customers will receive top-class hospitality from a team of well-trained robotic staff known as Peppers!
When you first step into the reception area, you'll be warmly greeted by five Peppers. You can choose to order your food from a menu normally, or let Pepper recommend you the perfect waffle according to your age, gender, and mood on the day of visit! These fun waffles have been designed after the different countries of the world. A couple of examples are: A French-based foie gras, silky mousse, and homemade granola (top left in the picture, 1,820 yen, tax excluded), and rice dumplings with raspberry butter (top right in the picture, 1,480 yen, tax excluded). Each serving looks as good as they taste, so stop by today to see what else they have to offer!

Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. (last order 8:30 p.m.)
These aren't all the lunch spots in Shibuya, of course, but we think they're rather serious contenders for your consideration because of their reasonable prices and top-quality food! There's nothing like trying out the real thing for yourself, so don't be afraid to go forth and explore to your heart's content!
