Restaurants and shops are located on the upper floors of the Departure Lobby, with the exception of Terminal 3. In recent years, more and more famous and popular ramen shops and cafés have opened at Narita Airport, trendy spots that you’ll often come across on Japanese social media. If you arrive early and have time before your flight, do make sure to stop by!

Terminal 1 – Check Floor 4 and 5 of the Main Building!

The departure lobby is divided into north and south wing, but in between the two of them is the main building’s restaurant and shopping area. It seems complicated like a maze while being home to a rich selection of sushi, ramen, fast food, and more! On said floor, the restaurants can mainly be found in the back.

Gihey was created by the famous Hachidaime Gihey, a prestigious brand of rice connoisseurs and experts. As you might have guessed, the restaurant is all about rice, striving to bring out the best flavor with careful selection, polishing, blending, and cooking. You can be sure that this entire process is done by some of Japan’s best rice experts and the restaurant even offers a free all-you-can-eat offer on this exceptional rice. This amazing sushi restaurant will serve you amazing creations prepared right in front of your eyes, whether you just want a little sushi snack or a full-fledged menu – sushi can be ordered by single plates here. Sushi Yuraku is an “Edomae” specialty store, meaning it prepares sushi the way it was enjoyed in Edo, old Tokyo. This mainly refers to the seafood and fish being caught in Tokyo Bay, so look forward to delicious local ingredients. The shop even offers take-out sets!

We especially recommend the “Arashiyama” set including tuna, sea urchin, salmon roe, and more for 2,380 yen, the “seafood chirashi” (sushi bowl) for 1,680 yen, the “maguro ikura” bowl with tuna and salmon roe for 1,080 yen, as well as the take-out anago (conger eel) sushi for 720 yen, or the goma-inari (fried bean curds with rice and sesame) for 380 yen.

Keisei Yuzen is a charming family restaurant that serves all kinds of dishes from Japanese cuisine, including sushi, soba, fried dishes, yakitori (grilled chicken), bowls, and even alcoholic beverages and desserts. If you’re traveling with someone who’s palate is different from yours, Keisei Yuzen is an excellent choice! Also note their side dish menu, tickling your taste buds with takoyaki (octopus balls) and more!

Our recommendations are una-ju zarusoba set (grilled eel and soba noodles) for 3,130 yen, maitake (hen of the woods) tempura bowl for 1,280 yen, mixed fry set for 1,480 yen, hirekatsu (pork fillet) bowl for 1,300 yen, or the warabimochi (dumpling) parfait for 630 yen.

The soup used for Tomita’s savory bowls I boiled for a total of 20 hours before being combined with homemade noodles from 100% domestic wheat. This creates a taste that makes Tomita one of Narita Airport’s most popular ramen shops. The shop also is the victor of Japan’s biggest tsukemen event, another reason why you’ll tend to see a queue in front of the place. At Tomita, you first order and pay at the register before being seated.

Special highlights from the menu are the special rich tsukemen for 1,180 yen, special Chinese-style soba for 1,130 yen, chashu (barbecued pork) Chinese-style soba for 1,170 yen, pungent rich tsukemen for 1,040 yen, and flavored half-boiled eggs for 120 yen per egg.

As you approach the shop, a pleasant udon aroma will already tickle your nose and whet your appetite. The wheat flour for the thick, firm-to-the-bite noodles is freshly made at the store every day, giving the finished dishes a rich and fresh flavor. First, you decide how much udon you want, such as 1 serving, 1.5 servings, and so on. Then, you get to choose from plenty of toppings, including tempura, as well as sides such as rice balls before proceeding to the register. This self-service system is quick and convenient.

Try the kitsune udon for 450 yen, beef udon for 630 yen, bukkake udon with soft-boiled egg for 480 yen, as well as chicken curry udon for 500 yen.As for toppings, we recommend wakame for 70 yen and various kinds of tempura from 130 yen.

A Japanese restaurant that is popular among the airport staff, Nanosato serves dishes evoking an authentic image of Japanese home cooking for very reasonable prices. The menu is simple but extensive, tickling your taste buds with udon, sushi, tempura, bowls, hot pots, and desserts. There’s even a breakfast menu offered until 9:30 a.m.

Our recommendations for Nanosato are sukiyaki with domestic beef for 2,138 yen, tempura soba for 1,274 yen, katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) for 1,490 yen, sushi set of 8 pieces for 1,598 yen, fried oysters for 1,274 yen, and the grilled fish set (breakfast menu) for 1,058 yen.

Tempura is a beloved Japanese dish served in many specialty stores – Tentei is one of them. If you have a craving for the light, crunchy goodness, don’t hesitate and head right in. From sets to rice bowls topped with tempura, the menu leaves nothing left to be desired. Season everything with a dash of soy sauce! Seasonal dishes prepared in a steaming basket are also very popular.

We especially recommend anago (conger eel) tempura soba for 1,410 yen, the tempura bowl and soba set for 1,050 yen, tempura and soba for 1,180 yen, and the special tempura bowl for 1,190 yen.

Obon de Gohan boasts a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that resembles a laid-back café. Its menu system combines one main dish – fish, pork, vegetables... over 20 different choices in total – with different choices of rice, soup, and other sides on one tray (called obon in Japanese). Lunch can be enjoyed from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while a breakfast menu is also available. The dessert selection is rich as well, with the buckwheat flour crepes being a special highlight.

We urge you to try the grated vegetable soup set with Mugifuji pork from 1,329 yen, chopped and grilled eel chazuke (tea poured over rice) for 1,296 yen, or today’s meat or fish lunch for 1,080 yen.

Sushiden offers the atmosphere and techniques of a high-class sushi restaurant in a comfortable and laid-back atmosphere. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and doesn’t only feature sushi, but also chawanmushi (egg custard), soups, and so on. The sashimi platters are especially delicious and take-out is possible as well.
One serving of nigiri or maki sushi is available from 210 yen, the sashimi platter of 5 costs 2,100 yen, and the “shinju” lunch set is 1,400 yen.

For McDonald’s, there’s the iconic teriyaki burger for 380 solo and 680 yen in a set, the shrimp filet-o for 440 yen solo and 740 yen in a set, the egg cheeseburger for 200 yen solo and 500 yen in a set, the hot apple pie for 100 yen, or the premium roast coffee (small) for 100 yen.

Both udon and soba noodles are boiled in a kelp-based stock at Sanbei, giving them a wonderfully rich taste and aroma. You can enjoy them either hot or cold and the tempura accompanying your order is fried freshly every time. For a smaller appetite, opt for the mini-tempura and udon set.

Other recommendations are the kitsune udon or soba for 780 yen, the cheese curry udon or soba for 1,080 yen, the tempura udon or soba for 1,420 yen, the Setouchi soba or udon (mini tempura and wakame udon set) for 1,320 yen, and the dashi soy sauce udon for 820 yen.

Menya Kookai offers salt and soy sauce ramen, but also the much beloved tonkotsu (pork bone) bowls. Especially popular are the special soba, plentifully topped with flavored eggs, wonton, barbecued pork, seafood, and all kinds of other delights. The ramen bowls can be ordered with rice or almond jelly as a set, perfect for big eaters.

We recommend the flavored egg soba (salt or soy sauce) for 900 yen, the special tonkotsu ramen for 1,320 yen, the spicy miso ramen for 1,100 yen, or the ramen set for 1,100 yen.

Terminal 3: A Small but Excellent Food Court!

Terminal 3 is relatively small and mainly dedicated to low-cost carriers, so the restaurants are appropriately casual and reasonably priced. That doesn’t mean they’re less tasty than the ones on Terminal 1 and 2, however! On the contrary, a lot of popular shops gather at Terminal 3’s food court.

Miyatake Sanuki Udon was founded in 1948 in Kagawa Prefecture. Its system is centered around choosing the size of the udon serving before enhancing it with a large selection of toppings and sides, such as tempura or rice balls. In the winter, the spicy udon with pork broth or the curry udon will warm you right up! That’s just one example of the shop’s seasonal menu, chilled options are available as well as the weather gets warmer.

Enjoy the spicy udon with pork broth from 650 yen, the Miyatake curry udon from 550 yen, rich pork udon from 700 yen, udon in broth from 330 yen, and eggplant tempura as a topping for 110 yen.

The beef patty of the “classic burger” is juicy and weighs 113 grams, so plenty of beef to sink your teeth in!
