Japan’s Beloved Characters Team Up in Tohoku
Gotochi Bears are collectible plush mascots inspired by destinations across Japan, with more than 340 regional varieties available nationwide. Meanwhile, Sanrio Characters need little introduction, having become global icons loved across generations.
Now, these two fan favorites have joined forces in a collaboration themed around the six prefectures of Tohoku: Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, and Fukushima.
[Aomori] Gotochi Bear Aomori Apple × Pompompurin

Aomori is Japan’s top apple-producing prefecture, and this adorable collaboration transforms Pompompurin into a fluffy apple-inspired bear. Celebrating his 30th anniversary in 2026, Pompompurin wears a bright red apple hat inspired by Aomori’s famous fruit culture.
The bear’s paw even features embroidered apples and the word “Aomori,” making it feel like a tiny keepsake filled with the region’s crisp northern charm.
Discover Aomori’s Festivals and Forest Scenery
Aomori is famous for the spectacular Nebuta Festival, where giant illuminated warrior floats parade through the streets in one of Japan’s most energetic summer festivals.
Hirosaki Park: One of Japan’s most famous cherry blossom destinations. In autumn, visitors can also enjoy seasonal apple-picking experiences.
Oirase Gorge: A lush forest stream often called one of Japan’s most beautiful nature walks. Spring and early summer greenery are especially stunning here.
[Iwate] Gotochi Bear Iwate Wanko Soba × Cinnamoroll

Iwate’s iconic local specialty, Wanko Soba, is famous for its endlessly refilled bowls and lively hospitality. Inspired by this tradition, Cinnamoroll appears wearing a miniature soba bowl hat in one of the collection’s most playful designs.
Explore Iwate’s Golden History and Scenic Gorges
Iwate was once the center of a wealthy northern kingdom that rivaled Kyoto in cultural influence.
Chuson-ji Temple: Home to the dazzling golden Konjikido Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site completely covered in gold leaf.
Genbikei Gorge: Famous for its “Flying Dango,” where baskets carrying sweets glide across the gorge on suspended wires.
[Miyagi] Gotochi Bear Miyagi Date Masamune × My Melody & Pochacco

Miyagi’s collaboration bears are inspired by legendary samurai lord Date Masamune, known for his striking crescent-moon helmet.
In this collection, My Melody and Pochacco wear Masamune-inspired black armor helmets decorated with crescent moon crests, blending fierce samurai aesthetics with adorable Sanrio charm.

Explore Miyagi’s Samurai Legacy and Coastal Beauty
Miyagi combines historic samurai culture with some of Japan’s most beautiful coastal scenery.
Sendai Castle Site: Overlooking the city of Sendai, this hilltop ruin is famous for its statue of Date Masamune on horseback.
Matsushima: Considered one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views, Matsushima is known for its pine-covered islands and fresh grilled oysters.
[Akita] Gotochi Bear Akita Namahage × Kuromi

A Slightly Wild? "Kuromi" Namahage Style
Akita’s collaboration stars Kuromi dressed as the famous Namahage, the fearsome folkloric demon figures recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Known for shouting “Any crying children here?!” during traditional New Year rituals, Namahage represent protection, discipline, and good fortune. Kuromi’s slightly mischievous personality makes her a perfect match for this bold regional tradition.
Samurai Streets and Hidden Hot Springs in Akita
Akita preserves much of its old samurai atmosphere and traditional countryside charm.
Kakunodate: Often called the “Little Kyoto of Tohoku,” this beautifully preserved samurai district is lined with black wooden walls and historic residences.
Nyuto Onsen: A secluded mountain hot spring area famous for its milky-white baths and peaceful forest setting.
[Yamagata] Gotochi Bear Yamagata Cherry × Hello Kitty

Yamagata is Japan’s premier producer of premium cherries, especially the famous Sato Nishiki variety.
This collaboration transforms Hello Kitty into a cherry-themed bear decorated with bright red fruit details and delicate cherry embroidery. The design perfectly reflects Yamagata’s sweet and elegant image.
Mountain Temples and Storybook Hot Springs in Yamagata
Yamagata blends spiritual mountain landscapes with nostalgic hot spring towns.
Yamadera (Risshaku-ji Temple): Climb more than 1,000 stone steps to reach spectacular mountain views once admired by poet Matsuo Basho.
Ginzan Onsen: This nostalgic hot spring town, illuminated by glowing gas lamps at night, feels like stepping into an old Japanese film.
[Fukushima] Gotochi Bear Fukushima Akabeko × Hangyodon

Fukushima’s iconic folk toy, the Akabeko red cow, has been cherished for more than 1,200 years as a symbol of good luck and protection.
This playful collaboration transforms Hangyodon into an Akabeko-inspired bear filled with quirky personality and regional charm.
Samurai Castles and Historic Post Towns in Fukushima
Fukushima remains deeply connected to samurai history and old-fashioned townscapes.
Tsuruga Castle: A striking red-roofed castle associated with the dramatic final years of the samurai era.
Ouchi-juku: A beautifully preserved post town lined with thatched-roof houses. The local specialty “Negi Soba” is famously eaten using a whole green onion instead of chopsticks.
