Japanese resorts have a way of bringing nature and hospitality together that feels distinctly their own. At places known as “nature-coexisting resorts,” a quiet reverence for the landscape is woven into every aspect of the stay. NEMU RESORT, set within the forests and coastline of Ise-Shima National Park in Mie Prefecture, is one such destination.

A Place Where Japan’s Classic Scenery Meets Contemporary Comfort

Ise-Shima has long been regarded as a sacred region and is home to the Ise Grand Shrine, a place often described as the spiritual heart of Japan. NEMU RESORT sits within this landscape on a large stretch of land measuring about 250 hectares. The area brings together the calm waters of Ago Bay, peaceful forests, and gentle satoyama countryside, creating a setting that feels like a small, harmonious picture of Japan’s natural beauty.
After an extensive renovation by Mitsui Fudosan, NEMU RESORT will reopen on April 18, 2026. Reservations begin on November 17, 2025. For travelers interested in experiencing Japan’s nature and culture more deeply, this guide explores the resort’s renewed features in detail.
The Renewal Concept and the Idea Behind “A Resort that Nurtures Village, Sea, and Forest”

The core of this renewal is the concept of creating a resort that nurtures the village, sea, and forest of Ise-Shima. The aim is not only to offer time in nature but also to provide opportunities to connect with it through themes of nature, experience, and learning. Guests are encouraged to reflect on how people and the environment can coexist, making this an innovative approach to resort design.
A stay here offers more than relaxation. As you’ll see, it provides a chance to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and gain a deeper awareness of the environment.
New Villas and the Hilltop House Offering Private, Panoramic Views
With this renewal, the overall experience at NEMU RESORT will see a significant upgrade. Among the most notable additions are the 18 newly built villas and the Hilltop House, both designed to take full advantage of the surrounding scenery.
Two New Ways to Stay: The Hills Villa and the Forest Villa

Two distinct villa styles will be introduced, creating a total of 18 units. The Hills Villa sits on elevated ground and features a view bath and a terrace in every room, where guests can enjoy private barbecues using ingredients from Mie Prefecture. The Forest Villa is surrounded by woodland and offers a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. In addition, eight existing villas will be redesigned to accommodate guests traveling with dogs. All villa guests can use dedicated carts for easy movement throughout the large property.
The Hilltop House, With Views Over Ago Bay (Opening July 2026)

The new Hilltop House will be built on the higher ground within NEMU RESORT and is expected to become one of the resort’s signature spaces. It will feature a main pool with wide views of Ago Bay and the Satoyama Suiseien. The terrace is also planned to host wellness activities such as yoga sessions.

The updates extend beyond the new villas. The main hotel building and dining spaces are also being refreshed to offer a richer experience.
Guest Rooms and the Lobby Blending Tradition and Modern Design

The existing Japanese-style rooms will be updated into modern spaces, tentatively named Executive and Superior, with warm wood tones and natural green accents. The lobby lounge will also expand its record-listening area, continuing the site’s history as a place once known for its connection to music.
Restaurant Satoumi, Showcasing the Flavors of Mie
The expanded Restaurant Satoumi will offer Japanese courses built around ingredients from Mie Prefecture, along with Western à la carte dishes and special menus that blend Japanese and Western styles. Guests can enjoy the seafood and mountain fare that Ise-Shima is known for in a refined and comfortable setting.
Learning About Coexisting With Nature: NEMU RESORT’s Sustainable Experiences

What sets NEMU RESORT apart is its approach to environmental stewardship.
Satoyama Suiseien, a Place to Observe Local Ecosystems

The Satoyama Suiseien (Satoyama Aquatic Garden) within the resort supports the circulation and reuse of water while also serving as a valuable space to experience a variety of ecosystems. Ongoing efforts to restore the tidal flats have encouraged the return of wildlife such as mullets and kingfishers. Guests can walk along the gentle streams and ponds and join programs focused on nature observation and environmental learning. It offers a chance to reflect on the broader idea of living in harmony with the natural world.
Don’t Miss the Special Renewal Offer
To mark the reopening, a limited-time plan will be available, with reservations starting on November 17, 2025. The offer includes a 3,000 yen discount per adult off the regular rate and a 3,000 yen credit per adult that can be used within the resort at restaurants, shops, and other facilities. For details, see the official website.
NEMU RESORT’s renewal brings together nature, comfort, and thoughtful design in a setting that reflects the landscape of Ise-Shima. If you are considering a stay surrounded by forests, coastline, and quiet countryside, this is an ideal moment to plan ahead.
