Mount Fuji has four different climbing trails. Of these, the Fujinomiya Trail is the easiest to understand, as the trail to the top and back down again are the same. Keep reading to learn all the basic information, including features and facilities, that you need to know when climbing the Mt. Fuji trails.
Features of Fujinomiya Trail
The Fujinomiya trail is one of the most popular trails and is second only to the most popular Yoshida Trail. It has the shortest distance from the starting point to the summit.
Altitude: 2380m
Round Trip Distance of Trail: Approx. 8.6m (ascent 4.3km, descent 4.3km)
Approximate Climbing Time: approx. 5 hours ascent, 3 hours descent
One feature is the steepness of the slope as a whole. The ascending and descending trails are the same, with many rocky areas. If it gets crowded, work together and help each other climb.
Understanding the Fujinomiya Trail
The Fujinomiya Trail starts at the 5th station of Fujinomiya-guchi at an altitude of 2380 meters. It takes you to the summit from the south side of Mt. Fuji in Fujinomiya City. The entrance to the mountain trail is in front of the sign next to the monument of Sir John Rutherford Alcock.
At the 6th station, the Hoeizan Trail branches off the main trail, or you can go to the Gotemba Trail. The slope becomes steeper and more rocky after the 6th station, so exercise caution as you continue to climb.
There is a torii gate near the summit. Once you pass through, you will reach the summit of Mt. Fujisan Hongu Tengen Taisha Okumiyamae Shrine. To continue to the crater, or the 'kengamine,' you will need to climb a steep slope called 'Umanose.'
Main Facilities of the Fujinomiya Trail
Along the Fujinomiya Trail are several mountain huts and toilets.
Each mountain hut toilet is managed separately, therefore rules for each toilet may also differ slightly.

Fujinomiya Trail 7th Station Facilities

Original 7th Station: Yamaguchi Sanso
8th Station: Ikeda-kan
9th Station: Mannen-yuki Sanso
9.5th Station: Munatsuki Sanso
Mountain huts may be full depending on the season, so be sure to make reservations before your climb.
The Fujinomiya Trail, with the closest distance to the summit, is recommended for those who are aiming for the shortest climb. However, keep in mind, even the shortest trail can be a challenging and dangerous climb. Be sure to prepare, both physically and mentally, before getting ready to climb!
