Pokémon Cafe Osaka: Meet Your Favorite Characters At This Paradise for Pokémon Fans!
- Written by: WESTPLAN
Pokémon Cafe (Shinsaibashi, Osaka) opened in September of 2019 at Daimaru Shinsaibashi, a popular department store among tourists and frequent shoppers located in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi district.
After the Pokémon Cafe (Nihonbashi, Tokyo) opened in 2018, it became the second Pokémon-themed restaurant in all of Japan and the first to be opened in Western Japan.
In addition to serving fun Pikachu and other Pokémon character-inspired meals, you will find that this cafe is entirely decorated in a Pokémon theme.
It’s so adorable, even just sitting at one of the tables is enjoyable, and must top your list of things to do in Osaka! Here we will introduce our visit to this extremely popular cafe where a range of fans from families to foreign guests frequently stops by.
What is a Pokémon Cafe?
At the Pokemon Cafe, you will find a Pokémon-themed interior as well as Pokémon-inspired dishes. This permanent and official character cafe even allows you to snap selfies with statues and plushie versions of your favorite characters, including Pikachu!
With limited-time menus and services available throughout different periods of the year, the discoveries are endless.
What’s more, next to the cafe is the official Pokemon Center Osaka DX where approximately 4,000 products along with the latest updates on Pokémon are available.
Direct Access from Osaka Metro’s Shinsaibashi Station: Easy to Get to Even on Rainy Days
Located right beside Osaka Metro’s Shinsaibashi Station, the Pokémon Cafe (Shinsaibashi, Osaka) can be found on the ninth floor of Daimaru Shinsaibashi (Main Building).
When traveling from JR’s Osaka Station, you can walk to Umeda Station’s Midosuji Line on the Osaka Metro. Then take the train bound for Nakamozu (Nakamozu bound or Tennoji bound) and get off at the third stop at Shinsaibashi Station.
When you pass through the south ticket gate, you will immediately see the entrance to the first basement floor of Daimaru Shinsaibashi.
The Pokémon Cafe is located on the ninth floor, otherwise known as the Japan pop culture floor.

Enter the World of Pokemon
With a white and wood grain design, the entire cafe, from its walls to its floors, is decorated with famous Pokémon characters including Pikachu. The cuteness of it all will leave you happy to just be there. What’s more, music from popular Pokémon games is played, adding to the exciting atmosphere.
The cafe has tables that seat four and two counters located in the middle of the cafe that seat six. In total, there are 96 seats available.
In one of the cafe’s corners, there’s a small photo spot where you can take pictures with chef and server Pikachu!
Once seated, you’ll find a lunch mat that’s been flipped so that the front side faces down. When flipping it back to the front, an original Pokémon Cafe design appears!
The design of these lunch mats differs throughout the year, so it’s a treat to get to see what characters will greet you. You can even bring the lunch mats home!
After you’ve had some time to enjoy looking at the designs, staff will explain how to order from a touch screen as well as how to enjoy your experience at the Pokémon Cafe fully.
Cards explaining How to Enjoy Your Visit to the Pokémon Cafe are available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
Order Food and Drinks!
Orders can be placed from the tablet on the table. The photo above shows what the home screen looks like. Last orders must be placed 30 minutes before your reserved table time ends.
Guides are available in Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, and Thai. A settings menu on the bottom-left corner of the touch screen enables you to choose your preferred language.
Also, the menu for seasonal recommendations, food, desserts, and drinks are separated by tabs at the top of the screen.
You also get a drink coaster lottery ticket per drink you order! After handing you your drink, staff will ask you to choose from one card out of the eight shown on their tablet’s screen. If you get the winning card, you get a free drink coaster! On our visit, we won coasters of pastry chef Pikachu.
