Tokyo's Only Pokémon Cafe to Close from March 2026
- Written by: LIVE JAPAN Editor
Since opening on March 14, 2018, the Pokémon Cafe in Tokyo's Nihonbashi area has been more than just a themed restaurant. As the world’s first permanent Pokémon Cafe, it turned the dream of dining with Pikachu into a daily reality for fans visiting Japan from around the globe.
Now, the beloved spot is preparing for its next evolution.

A Temporary “Rest” for Renovation
According to the official announcement, the Nihonbashi location will temporarily close to undergo interior renovations designed to enhance the overall guest experience. Reopening dates have yet to be finalized, but the official website mentions sometime in late June.
If you’re planning a spring or early summer 2026 trip to Tokyo and had your heart set on character-themed dishes and exclusive merchandise, be sure to adjust your itinerary accordingly.
The Silver Lining for Trainers
The Pokémon Cafe in Shinsaibashi, Osaka will continue operating as usual during this period. If your travels take you to Kansai, this is still your chance to enjoy the full Pokémon dining experience.
For dedicated fans, it may even be the perfect excuse to add Osaka to your plans while Tokyo’s café prepares to reopen with a refreshed look later this summer!
