When traveling in the Kanto region this is one place you definitely should visit.

1. Nikko Kanaya Hotel: One of the classic hotels in Nikko where you can feel history
The Nikko Kanaya Hotel was established in 1873 as a hotel for foreigners and has the distinction of being the oldest resort hotel in Japan. It has been favored as a salon by both foreign and domestic dignitaries with such luminaries as Charles Lindbergh, Helen Keller, Albert Einstein, and Natsume Soseki having stayed here.
Nikko Toshogu, a major sightseeing destination, is within walking distance. A leisurely stroll will get you there in about 15 minutes.
The moment you set foot inside this famous Nikko accommodation, you are greeted by the elegant furnishings and magnificent sculptures. The interior takes you back in time to the Meiji and Taisho eras at which time it was considered modern and it also has a uniquely Nikko-like feel to it.
You will definitely want to visit the main dining room and lounge. When the hotel opened it was a time when Western cuisine was uncommon in Japan, but through trial and error the chefs over several generations created traditional dishes unique to the hotel.
A fine example of this is the orthodox and elegant breakfast!
Aficionados of classic hotels in Japan will find the guest rooms here to be very relaxing and comfortable having captured the essence of Japanese culture in a Western-style setting.
By no means extravagant yet exuding an air of refinement, you can definitely spend a relaxing and restful time in this hotel in Nikko that's so steeped in history.
If you are looking for a memorable stay in a classic hotel with a long history as a resort, then you should definitely consider staying here.

2. Nikko Hoshinoyado: Perfect for couples! Pure Japanese-style onsen ryokan in Nikko
Nikko Hoshinoyado is a hotel in Nikko set on the high ground amidst nature, resplendent with a soothing Japanese garden featuring two ponds, and is noted for its yuba kaiseki cuisine. Nikko Toshogu Shrine is only two minutes away by car. It can also be reached on foot in about 15 minutes, close enough for a relaxing walk.
The chic interior of this Nikko ryokan has a pure Japanese atmosphere, and the tatami-mat Japanese-style guest rooms afford excellent views of the mountains of Nikko. Change into a yukata and just sit back and relax,
One of the main attractions at the Nikko Hoshinoyado is its kaiseki cuisine prepared in traditional authentic ways and presented with a modern touch.
In addition to Hikiage Yuba, for which Nikko is famous, the restaurant also serves seasonal dishes beautifully arranged and presented.
The hot spring in the inn draws its water from the hot springs of Nikko Onsen, which is said to be the spring source that Kobo Daishi, an 8th century Buddhist monk, called “Reverie Hot Spring”.
There are large baths made of Japanese cedar and also an open-air bath. The view of the garden from the bath is soothing and if you are lucky, you might even be able to see deer in the garden!
The large baths are called Kengyu-no-Yu and Shokujo-no-Yu. These are the Japanese names of the constellations Altair and Vega shining in the night sky. There is a romantic tale about two stars that originated in China and spread throughout the Far East and which in Japan is told in the Tanabata legend.
Nikko Hoshinoyado, which in English means "Inn of the stars of Nikko", has a romantic atmosphere that is perfect for couples. Another reason it is perfect for couples is because it has a drink service and late checkout plan! If you are traveling with a friend or partner and are looking for a place to spend a relaxing and leisurely time, then this is the perfect place.
If you are visiting Nikko on a day trip, you can also stop by here and use the hot spring, and the inn also offers a lunch with hot spring bath set just for that. If you would like to spend some time out of the ordinary, then why not stay at this quaint hot spring inn?
