Even in spring, Aomori’s snow season is far from over, and these guided SnowHike tours make the most of that. These guided backcountry spring hiking courses use Aomori’s remaining snow as a source of adventure, offering a more serious mountain experience in Minami-Hakkoda for advanced-level participants.

There are two main courses: Kushigamine (1,517m) and Yokodake (1,339m)

For a more approachable snow activity than the above advanced hiking courses, this spring snowshoe program opens the Hakkoda landscape to beginner and intermediate participants as well, making it great for families and casual outdoor travelers alike.

For spring visitors who cannot experience the August festival itself, WA RASSE runs regular big-screen presentations all about the Nebuta Festival inside the paid zone. These screenings give visitors a way to experience the excitement of the famous Aomori festival, even though the real event is still months away.

There’s also a daily hands-on program at Wa Rasse that lets visitors hear the live festival music, and even try parts of the Nebuta performance for themselves. It’s one of the easiest and most memorable hands-on introductions to Aomori’s best-known tradition.

Held at the Forest Museum, this exhibition looks at Aomori hiba, the forestry administration, and the historical development of the Okidate area. For those interested in regional history and the industries that shaped Aomori, it offers a grounded, educational museum visit.

Overlapping with this exhibit, there is also the Aomori Hiba, Tsugaru Forest Railway, Aomori Forestry Bureau Photo Exhibition.

This one-day anniversary event puts the spotlight on Komakino-kan and its role as a Jomon learning facility, with workshops, café activities, and other festivities.
It’s a smaller event, but a meaningful one for anyone interested in Aomori’s Jomon history and culture.

During Golden Week, Moya Hills turns into a family-friendly outdoor leisure base with seasonal programming aimed at day-trippers and holiday visitors. If the Green Season Open marks the transition, Golden Week is where that transition starts to get busy and real, with lots of other exciting events following the holiday week, introduced below.

Soba-Making Experience
First there’s the soba-making experience. Using local buckwheat flour, this food experience lets participants knead, roll, cut, and then eat their hand-made soba on-site, blending local produce with hands-on, family-friendly tourism.

Tree Climbing Experience
Next is the super fun, super inexpensive outdoor activity, the Tree Climbing Experience, which gives families and children a controlled tree-climbing experience for a more physical, outdoor activity.

Wild Mountain Vegetables Class
Veggie lovers can join a special class all about seasonal spring sansai, or mountain vegetables, including how to pick them and cook them as tempura. For this class, participants will gather seasonal mountain vegetables together and then eat them afterward, making the event part nature walk, part cooking class.

Finally, for those visiting outside of Golden Week (or those who simply want to visit again), there’s also camping! Located at the northern entrance of Hakkoda, it’s the perfect option for a family-friendly outdoor event in the wonderful nature of Aomori City. And if you don’t have your own equipment, you can also rent basic camping equipment for an extra free, including tents, tarps, BBQ stoves, cooking utensils, and more!

This guided tour focuses on springtime’s new apple blossoms, rather than the more commonly highlighted autumn apple harvest. It’s a very Aomori-style outing, built around something the region is known at a different moment in the year. Lunch is included in the package, as well as extra activities like learning how to play fun local games!

During Golden Week, WA RASSE continues the above-mentioned events with appearances by actual Nebuta hayashi groups, creating an even stronger sense of festival presence than usual. For spring visitors unable to attend the actual Nebula festival in summer, this is a great alternative.

There’s also an Aomori Nebuta Hayashi Hands-On Experience for Kids, a fun hands-on learning experience held over multiple courses that’s less about putting on a show, and more about passing nebuta culture forward through instruction.

This class offers a beginner-friendly chance to try Tsugaru hand dance in the local civic center venue. Designed to be approachable, it opens the tradition up beyond experienced performers into something ordinary participants can step into for themselves. Participants are recommended to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle for hydration.

ReinMeer’s spring home schedule keeps football at the center of Aomori’s spectator calendar through the end of May as the club gives locals and visitors more than one chance to catch the players in action.

This new collection show reorganizes the museum’s holdings around the visual ideas of color and form, giving spring visitors an entry point beyond the headline temporary exhibitions.

This exhibition presents original artwork in a public gallery space inside the social education center rather than in a large museum setting, featuring scenes and stories connected to life in the past based on the storybook, 'A Little Story from Long Ago'. It is modest in scale, but it adds a warm, community-based tone to the spring arts lineup.
