Description

Known also as the Atami of Tohoku (Atami is a famous onsen resort near Tokyo), this onsen resort offers a view of the gently arcing Mutsu Bay coastline and mountains behind. There are about ten hotels lining the coast, from large resort hotels with ocean-view bathrooms to small Japanese ryokan (traditional small-sized inns) that will make you feel right at home. The hot springs have sodium-calcium-sulfate water, effective for nerve pain, muscle pain, stiff shoulders and bruises. There are also spots where you can just enjoy dipping without staying overnight. The information corner at Asamushi Onsen Station sells ”Asamushi Yufuda” for 1,000 JPY, giving you access to two such spots.
Sunset Beach Asamushi in front of the onsen town will be open for swimming from July 18 through to August 23, offering a variety of marine leisure activities including stand-up paddle boarding, sailing, sea kayaking and fishing. The Asamushi Onsen Nebuta Festival will take place in July and August, and the Asamushi Onsen Fireworks in late July with about 4,000 fireworks.
