Description
Ohtori Shrine, a shrine famous for business prosperity, enshrines the deities Ame no Hiwashi no Mikoto and Yamato Takeru no Mikoto. Its annual market held in November since Edo times is where many come to pray for happiness, enhanced fortune, disaster avoidance, prosperity in business and better luck in the coming year. This is Tori no Ichi, held in 10 locations around Tokyo and the largest such event in the country. At Ohtori Shrine, some 750 stalls — not counting 150 shops selling luck charms — cater to an astonishing 700,000–800,000 visitors every year. In the main building, you will find monuments to the famous Japanese writer Ichiyo Higuchi and haiku poet Shiki Masaoka. A seven-minute walk from North Exit 3 of Iriya Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
