If sushi and sightseeing are both on your Tokyo bucket list, a wonderfully unusual new attraction is about to combine the two.

Launching in October 2026, the new SUSHI BUS is a double-decker sightseeing bus with an actual conveyor belt sushi lane running through its upper deck. Passengers will be able to watch Tokyo roll past while sushi rolls past them, with around 70 minutes of all-you-can-eat sushi along the way.

Yes, this is apparently happening.

Created by SUSHI BUS Co., Ltd. in collaboration with WILLER ACROSS, the SUSHI BUS transforms an existing double-decker restaurant bus into what its creators describe as the world’s first open-top bus equipped with a conveyor belt sushi system.

Rather than taking passengers from Point A to Point B, the bus is designed as a food and sightseeing experience in itself. Trips will depart from the Kajibashi Parking Lot near Tokyo Station, tour the city, and eventually return.

The company says it has spent around two and a half years turning the idea into reality.

The setup is surprisingly straightforward. Sushi is prepared in the kitchen on the first floor of the bus, then sent upstairs using an onboard lift. Staff on the second floor place the freshly prepared dishes onto a conveyor belt running alongside the passenger seats.

From there, passengers simply pick what they want as it comes around.

The ride is expected to last around 70 minutes, during which the sushi is all-you-can-eat.

Essentially, it is a sightseeing bus, restaurant, and conveyor belt sushi experience rolled into one. You can watch a demo of the conveyor system below.

The upper deck is designed to give passengers views of Tokyo while they eat, adding a rather surreal new option to the city’s sightseeing scene.

The company has teased famous areas such as Shibuya, Ginza, and Asakusa as examples of the kind of scenery passengers could encounter. An official sightseeing route, however, has not yet been announced.

And part of the fun may be outside the bus, too. A double-decker vehicle full of people eating conveyor belt sushi is unlikely to blend quietly into Tokyo traffic, so passengers may find themselves becoming part of the sightseeing attraction.

At launch, the SUSHI BUS is expected to operate with just one vehicle and 20 passenger seats.

The company is aiming for up to five trips per day, meaning a maximum of around 100 seats could be available daily. With only 20 people aboard each ride, this could become one of Tokyo’s more unusual reservations to snag once bookings open.

The creators are also considering eventually expanding beyond Tokyo, with Osaka, Kyoto, and other major destinations mentioned as possible future locations.

According to the company, the service plans to accommodate a variety of dietary requirements, including allergies and religious dietary restrictions.

Specific menus and procedures have not yet been announced, so travelers with dietary requirements should check the latest information when reservations become available.

Tokyo already has themed cafés, ninja attractions, quirky trains, and more unusual dining experiences than most travelers could fit into one trip. But eating conveyor belt sushi on the upper deck of a bus while cruising through the capital?

That might just be a new one.
