Description
The Kumano Kodo is a path of worship that goes through the Kumano Sanzan, the region's three grand shrines. The main route of this ancient historic pilgrimage is via the Kiji trail, which goes southwards from Kyoto or Osaka along the oceanside of Kii province. From Tanabe, the path heads towards Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine via the mountainous Nakahechi trail.
