Being a stop on the bullet train’s path, Shin Osaka Station sees plenty of tourists from all over the country. It is a perfect place to get Osaka souvenirs!
Here, we’ll be taking a look at the Entrée Marche’s branch in the station to find out what souvenirs are most popular with tourists. There are plenty of unique souvenirs and traditional classics such as takoyaki. What’s popular amongst them?
What’s Shin Osaka Station like, anyway?
Shin Osaka is about a five minute ride from the base of Osaka sightseeing, Osaka Station. It also allows you to take the bullet train to Tokyo, Fukuoka, and other faraway cities in a manner of hours, making it a key station in trips around Japan and Kansai.
Since Shin Osaka is a mid-point to so many places, it boasts a number of souvenir shops. We’ll be taking a look at Entrée Marche, which boasts the largest selection in the station.
One of the secrets to their popularity is the sheer amount of treats and snacks from Osaka and the Kansai area, so let’s take a look at which Osaka souvenirs are particularly popular with international tourists.
Flavors of Osaka: Takoyaki flavors are popular
This crunchy fried potato stick treat, Jagabee, has takoyaki as a Kansai-exclusive flavor. The lingering flavor of takoyaki sauce is joined by the fragrant flavor of dashi. A small pack comes with 5 bags, so they’re perfect for a little Osaka souvenir gift to a friend.
A pâtissier-developed, novel treat. It starts with the classic takoyaki flavor of seaweed, bonito flakes, mayonnaise and sauce, but as you bite down, it morphs into a sweet treat. The texture of crunchy walnuts and flaky pie crust is a no-brainer; enjoy its curious flavor metamorphosis. Individually wrapped, you can give them to as many people have you have packages.
These cookies might look exactly like Osaka’s most well-known treat, takoyaki, but bite into them and be surprised by their milky flavor. The “sauce” on top is actually chocolate. Enjoy the playful design as you savor the light flavor!
Sweet Souvenirs: Rich flavors like cheese and matcha are popular
This is a particularly popular box, allowing the customer to remember the flavors of Japan even back home! This luxurious Osaka souvenir collection has cookies with chocolate, strawberry, and matcha flavors. The matcha cookies sandwich white chocolate and strawberry filling, mixing a slight bitterness with the sweet and sour taste of strawberry. The fun crunch of the cookies makes it hard to stop eating them.
This baumkuchen is made with a blend of Uji matcha, Kyoto-made soy milk and domestic flour. Each layer has been carefully baked at specific temperatures, giving it a wonderfully soft finish. Its perimeter has been coated with a matcha fondant, and the cake as a whole has a sweet, slightly bitter, deep taste.
The signature product of the popular Japanese cheese tart maker, Pablo. This is a soft, rich cheese cake filled with cream cheese. The vanilla flavor melts in the mouth. They have a long shelf life, too, so you won’t have to worry about time spent traveling after your purchase.
The Oddballs: These Osaka souvenirs are popular for their uniqueness!
Gacha capsules have been surprisingly popular with tourists recently. This Bullet Train Collection is a variety of models created under the supervision of the monthly magazine Kintetsu Fan, and boasts 6 popular bullet trains, including the Doctor Yellow. The models aren’t just the trains, either: they include a mini-diorama, allowing you to enjoy a snapshot of the trains in motion. These trains are only in Japan, so they’ll probably make great Osaka souvenirs for children and railway fans.
As the name suggests, this is a can of takoyaki that you can take home at room temperature. They have plenty of sauce and a soft texture, and if you warm them up and put bonito flakes on them, they’ll feel even more authentic. They’re easy to carry and long-lasting, so you can remember your trip to Japan long after you’re back home.
This face mask has a fragrance of Japanese flowers. It makes use of extracts from Kyoto Uji matcha and Kyoto-made mayudama to make the skin smooth and clear. The thick sheet fits smoothly on your skin, making it feel luxurious to use. See how you feel before and after you try it!
