Description

Yasaka Shrine, the guardian shrine of Kyoto, is known for providing protection against bad luck and disease and prosperity in business. Yasaka Shrine is the head shrine of all Gion shrines in the country, and is dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Kushinadahime-no-Mikoto, and Yahashira-no-Mikogami. Locals call the shrine “Yasaka-san” or “Gion-san.” The Gion Festival, one of Kyoto’s three major festivals, is organized by Yasaka Shrine.
