HOME Kansai Kyoto Fushimi, Uji Teradaya Inn

Description

Teradaya Inn is famous for the “Teradaya Incident” where a brawl broke out between Satsuma warriors wanting to go against the shogunate and fellow Satsuma warriors sent to stop them. Existing since ancient times, the Teradaya Inn was frequented by Ryoma Sakamoto, a soldier of fortune from the Bakumatsu period. This is also where Ryoma Sakamoto asked Otose, the mistress of Teradaya at the time, to take in Oryo. Oyro then later became Ryoma Sakamoto’s wife. Oryo’s anecdotes on Ryoma’s raid are famous, and nowadays, many fans of Ryoma still flock to the inn.
