Description
This monzeki temple was Emperor Saga’s imperial villa at one point, before becoming a head temple for the Shingon sect of Buddhism. Daikaku-ji Temple is said to be the birthplace and administration office of Saga Goryu Ikebana (flower arrangement). Sanraku Kano’s “Folding Screen of Red and White Plum Blossoms” and “Botanzu” in the Shinden hall are magnificent. Saga Chrysanthemums blossom adorably in autumn, too. A white sand garden spreads out beautifully before the Shinden hall, and the view overlooking the Osawa-no-ike pond from Godai-do Hall is excellent.
