1. Dai-ichi Takimotokan: Making Noboribetsu Onsen guests happy since 1858

The Dai-ichi Takimotokan Hotel, founded in 1858 by Kinzo Takimoto for his ailing wife Sata, is Noboribetsu’s oldest hot spring resort. Kinzo, a former carpenter from Edo, built a small hut by the spring so Sata could bathe and recover from her illness - an act of devotion that became the foundation of Noboribetsu Onsen itself.

Over time, the inn grew in popularity, welcoming everyone from local Ainu to samurai stationed nearby, and helped establish the area as one of Japan’s leading hot spring destinations.

Today, Dai-ichi Takimotokan remains one of the most expansive resorts in Noboribetsu, with a vast variety of baths to enjoy. Its location is unmatched: directly in front of Noboribetsu Jigokudani, closer to this dramatic “Hell Valley” than any other ryokan.

Guests also have easy access to the Gokuraku Street shopping district and the Donan Bus Noboribetsu-Onsen Bus Terminal, just a seven-minute walk away.

Just three minutes from Dai-ichi Takimotokan, Noboribetsu Hell Valley offers dramatic views where mineral-rich hot springs bubble up from an ancient volcanic crater.

The Meito no Yado Park Hotel Miyabitei is built directly above its own bubbling hot spring source. It is a 10-minute walk from the Donan Bus Noboribetsu Onsen Terminal and only 5 minutes on foot from Noboribetsu Hell Valley.

Hot spring water gradually becomes more acidic as it’s exposed to air, which diminishes its quality. For this reason, the sooner the water flows into the bath after leaving the ground, the better.

With this in mind, the inn was constructed right over the source to ensure guests can enjoy baths filled with the freshest, highest-quality mineral water. The property features five types of baths, each offering spring water that is fresh, concentrated, and exceptionally pure thanks to the proximity of the source.
