Description
Formed by repeated eruptions of Mt. Komagatake, Onuma Quasi-National Park spreads across three lakes scattered with 126 small islands. Every turn along the lakeside boardwalk brings a new view of bridges, islets, and the volcano reflected on the water. Fresh spring greenery and autumn foliage are the classic seasons, but a cruise or canoe trip shows the mountain from an entirely different angle. It's a slower, more natural side of Hokkaido than a city stroll through Hakodate offers, and one of Japan's ”New Three Views.”
