The Furano area is located right in the center of Hokkaido, and visited by many people from all over the world. The Shin Furano Prince Hotel is among the many attractive accommodation options in the city, and it boasts some of the most fulfilling facilities.
Guests can experience a relaxing stay unmatched elsewhere, its hospitality refined and well-appointed facilities, such as the cafes and gardens, are in harmony with the beautiful natural surroundings.
Let's take a closer look at the 6 reasons why the Shin Furano Prince Hotel is so incredible!
1. Breathtaking seasonal panoramic vistas from Shin Furano Prince Hotel guest rooms
The Shin Furano Prince Hotel sits in a beautiful forest spreading out from the base of the Furano Ski Resort connected to Mt. Furano-Nishi. The building, which rises like an elliptical column, has 407 guest rooms.
Rooms facing the mountains have views of the slopes while in summer the view is of verdant fields. The rooms facing the city offer spectacular views of the Furano Basin and Tokachi mountain range in the distance.
The view from the suite rooms on the top floor is especially awe-inspiring! Viewed from here the beautiful Furano scenery gives the feeling that it is for the viewer alone to enjoy.
2. Mineral-rich natural hot springs: Spend time relaxing in the midst of a pristine, verdant forest
Even though each guest room is equipped with a shower, we recommend taking a long, relaxing soak in the Shisai no Yu hot spring facilities in the annex to soothe away the fatigue from your travels.
The facilities may also be used by day-visitors not staying in the hotel (open 1:00 PM ~ 11:30 PM; 1,540 yen for adults and 770 yen for elementary-aged children and younger).
The views of the green forest beyond the windows help you relax in the warm, soothing waters of the hot spring bath.
The minerals in the hot spring are sodium and calcium chloride. The source of the hot spring is 1,000 meters below Furano and its qualities smooth the skin and relax and heal tired muscles; they are also said to be good for neuralgia.
A leisurely soak in the hot spring bath after a day of sightseeing and other activities is the perfect way to remove fatigue. There is also an outdoor bath as well as an authentic Finnish sauna with a window offering a stunning view of the Tokachi mountain range.
There is also a relaxation salon on the first floor of the bath annex. Here you can enjoy foot massages and aroma esthetic massages, too.
3. Furano is a treasure trove of Hokkaido cuisine: Indulge in the evening and morning buffets!
Morning and evening meals at the Shin Furano Prince Hotel are also a source of pleasure. Located in the center of Hokkaido, Furano is able to get delicious food products from every part of the prefecture. There are also many farms and dairies around Furano providing the hotel with the freshest products which are used in its cuisine.
Dinner is served buffet style and offers about 40 types of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine prepared with choice local ingredients. The menu is changed every two months so that the freshest seasonal dishes are always offered. You can also enjoy sushi made before your very eyes as well as a corner where ramen is offered.
The breakfast buffet has an equally impressive selection of more than 30 types of Japanese and Western dishes to choose from. The pickled trout roe, to which you can freely help yourself, is especially popular. There is also a salad bar loaded with fresh vegetables. Here you can get the true taste of Hokkaido cuisine.
Another point of interest is a place in the hotel where freshly baked croissants are offered. These go especially well with a glass of Furano milk that has been pasteurized in an original method to bring out its sweet flavor.
4. Garden, café, activities: Enjoy the use of the picnic garden!
A large attraction of the Shin Furano Prince Hotel is the many different facilities offered on its premises. Here you can enjoy a wide selection of activities from shopping to those designed to help you enjoyably pass away the time.
On the hotel grounds is the 310,000 square meter spacious Picnic Garden where you can enjoy different kinds of activities. The beautiful expanse of trees and grass is divided into a Park Golf area and garden zone.
Park Golf (from 1,100 yen for adults and from 550 yen for elementary-aged children and younger) is a competitive game played with a large ball that you try to roll into the cup. It is different from normal golf and something the very young and very old can also enjoy; perfect for groups and families. There are a total of 36 holes in the course interspersed in a wooded area cooled by fresh breezes.
The flower zone is a section of the Picnic Garden given over to a multitude of different flowers. Seasonal flowers such as poppies and lavender are the pride of the garden and very popular with visitors.
Also within the broad expanse of the garden, it is possible to rent a Segway (price: 2,500 yen per 15 minutes) in order to explore as much of it as possible.
Another popular attraction in the Picnic Garden is the Tree Adventure Furano (adults 2,500 yen; elementary school children 1,500 yen) that is very popular with young people and families.
This thrilling attraction is a suspended path made of rope and planks slung between trees in the forest. There are a number of challenging sections, such as one where the planks are semi-round and another that is a “shaky bridge”. The overall length of the course is 250 meters consisting of 19 stations.
As you proceed through the Picnic Garden you will come across a café, restaurant, and bar in the middle of the forest. The Mori no Tokei (Forest Clock) coffee shop that was the setting for a drama that was popular overseas, Yasashii Jikan (Gentle Time), will catch your eye. The interior is exactly as it appeared in the TV drama and here you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.
When you order a coffee at the counter, you are handed the beans and a mill so that you can grind them yourself. Enjoy the coffee made from these freshly ground coffee beans as you take in the quiet scenery outside the window letting the time pass by slowly.
5. Enjoy the ropeway and view of the garden - or even a round of golf!
There are a number of other large facilities suitable for a resort hotel in the area. Here we would like to introduce a few.
The Furano Ropeway is next to the hotel (roundtrip fee: 1,900 yen for adults, 950 yen for elementary-aged children and younger). It is especially popular with sports enthusiasts in the winter.
During the green season, between the middle of June and the middle of October, you can take it to the 900-meter point to get a spectacular view of the Furano Basin below.
The Wind Garden (admission: 800 yen for adults, 500 yen for elementary-aged children and younger) is an English-style garden inside the Picnic Garden. It covers about 2,000 square meters and contains about 20,000 plants of 450 varieties which are pleasing to the eye. The garden is exactly as it appeared in the television drama and so are the other buildings.
The Furano Golf Course, designed by the famous golfer Arnold Palmer, is a 20-minute shuttle bus ride away from the hotel (advanced reservations required for the bus) and very popular with golfers. The course has 36 holes and twosomes are allowed. Golf carts are also allowed. This a good place for couples to relax playing golf.
6. Stroll through Ningle Terrace, a fantasy market spreading throughout the forest!
Ningle Terrace is perhaps the most popular of all the many facilities in the Shin Furano Prince Hotel complex. This is a romantic shopping area nestled within the forest of lovely shops selling craft items. A small road lined with old trees next to the Furano Drama Hall located near the hotel parking lot is the entrance.
Ningle is an Ainu word meaning “fairy”. They stand only about 15 cm tall and live in the forests of Hokkaido. There are 14 small cottages set among the trees selling crafts and one could easily imagine catching glimpses of fairies.
In the daytime, the light filtering through the trees is soft and gentle while at night the glow from soft lights gives the place a romantic air. The differences between night and day are quite sharp, but at either time, a stroll through the area is quite romantic.
The shops in Ningle Terrace all sell crafts that are in harmony with the forests of Furano. Each shop displays and sells unique crafts made from wood or silver which make wonderful souvenirs to remind you of your stay in Furano.
The Shin Furano Prince Hotel is a wonderful place where you can enjoy doing winter sports in the winter and in summer, a variety of other outdoor activities.
The hotel complex has a wide array of facilities from restaurants and cafes to outdoor areas offering other pleasures.
By all means, take time to visit here and enjoy the soothing and relaxing natural beauty that abounds here!
