Before heading back to your hotel after a day of wandering around Tokyo and seeing the sights, a delicious meal really hits the spot. Taste is a must of course, but you don’t need to splurge for quality food in Japan! This time we will introduce 3 places in Shibuya where you can eat for under a 1,000 yen. Recharge yourself with a delicious meal on your way back to the hotel!
1. Meshiya Tajibei: Low Fat, Low Calorie Meals
If you want a healthy dinner, we recommend Meshiya Tajibei. They have an assortment of low fat low calorie meals with fish and meat dishes that were slowly charbroiled.
The wooden interior gives a retro feel, also the shamisen music in the background adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
The most popular meal from their menu is the Salmon Halas (belly meat) and Broiled Tsukuba chicken meal, where you can enjoy fish and meat for a 1,000 yen. It’s also nice that the fatty salmon has low sugar. However this combo meal is only limited to 10 servings a day so it might be up to luck.
But don’t worry, even if they are out of the meal, they still sell the Salmon Halas meal (790 yen) and Broiled Tsukuba Chicken meal (790 yen) individually.
They also have the Eraberu Kenkou Washoku (Selectable Healthy Japanese Meal) for 890 yen. For this meal you can replace the rice with tofu and choose 2 salads or small dishes on the side. This is perfect for anyone on a diet who wants a full meal and not feel guilty.
Even if you’re dining solo, with a healthy meal like this, you are bound to have a great time.

2. Yanbaru Shibuya: A Casual Okinawan Restaurant
Yanbaru Shibuya offers the laid-back island atmosphere of Okinawa in Shibuya. They serve authentic Okinawan dishes like goya chanpuru (bitter gourd, stir-fried Okinawan style), Okinawa soba (noodles) and Jimami Tofu (peanut tofu).
The store has a lively and warm atmosphere, also you order with food tickets, so it is easy to enter even if you’re by yourself. The first basement floor has table seats and the first floor has counter seats. This is a great place to stop by if you want to eat casually or if you are in a hurry.
They have over 10 types of Okinawa soba such as the soki soba and rafute soba. Okinawa soba is a healthier option compared to other noodles and it is light. Especially the Asa soba (750 yen) which uses a lot of green dried seaweed is popular amongst the ladies.
Other popular dishes are the goya chanpulu teishoku and fu chanpulu teishoku (fu is a bread like food made of wheat gluten) with lots of vegetables (830 yen ~). These teishoku (set meals) will come with half rice, half soba and jasmine tea. The restraint also has the famous Okinawan ice cream Blue Seal starting from 250 yen, depending on what you order you can even have some sweets with your meal for under 1,000 yen.
We recommend this lively place for people who don’t like to eat alone. Enjoy your delicious Okinawan meal with the friendly atmosphere.

3. Torikatsu Chicken: Chicken cutlets, ham cutlets and more! Prime spot when you're looking to indulge!
On a day you feel like eating a lot, your best bet is heading on over to the deep-fry restaurant Torikatsu Chicken! It is a hidden store in Shibuya Hyakkendana Shotengai along Dogenzaka.
The restaurant is mostly counter seats with many single customers. It has a Showa era teishoku restaurant feel, which gives off a vibe of relaxing meal at home.
Everything on their menu is deep-fried. The popular menu at the store is the teishoku where you can select different deep fried dishes. There are 11 deep-fried dishes such as the ton katsu (pork cutlet), tori katsu (chicken cutlet), aji fry (fried horse mackerel), and crab cream croquette. The teishoku comes with rice, miso soup and you can choose 2 items for 650 yen, 3 items for 800 yen and 4 items for 1,000 yen.
The portions are large and you can try out various flavors.
If you are looking for a value meal we recommend the Ninki Teishoku (popular teishoku) (650 yen), which includes tori katsu, ham katsu, and croquette (see photo). The hot and crispy deep-fried dishes is delicious!
After a hard day’s travel, sometimes it’s good to forget about the calories and recharge on a heavy meal!
