We know that this will be a particularly difficult holiday season away from loved ones for many foreigners in Japan. Bringing yourself some joy this season is imperative for all of us, and as we ramp up to the gift-giving season, we’re excited to share all the fun and quirky items from Japan in our How to Win At Christmas series.
It’s rare that I look at a product and genuinely laugh out loud-- but the Nyantama (lit. "meowballs") pouch by Fellissimo is a true delight.
The entire cat is made out of a plush, soft-bore fabric that feels soft and gentle to the touch. The little back pom-poms are extra fluffy as well, for maximum humor and cuteness.
This pouch is perfect for all of the small necessities of life that can get lost in the bottom of a purse -- chapstick, headphones, etc. -- you can even put your fingers in the little feet and play them like a puppet as a distraction for fussy little ones stuck inside the car or train.
You can purchase it here at Felissimo, but it’s important to note that Felissimo isn’t like other platforms. This direct-to-consumer brand has both a simple shop and a monthly subscription service, called simply “collections.” While you can choose which collections you’d like to be included in your monthly box, you will only receive one design per month (unless you order two, in which case you’ll receive two of the SAME pattern each month). You can collect all four by waiting for your package each month for four months (more on their buying/shipping method in the English FAQ here). Each pouch is approximately 1800 yen before taxes, with 54 yen from each purchase going to the Wan-Nyan Support Enterprise.
There are several other sweet cat-themed products from the 995 artist collaboration collection: like this collection of neck pillows, perfect for the family of cat lovers. Great for side and back sleepers, this neck-loving neko will make you practically purr. Each pillow is 2600 yen plus tax.
For a pocket-sized cat that’s a touch more… schoolyard appropriate, 995’s final collection piece are these smartcard holders, stretching out of a child’s backpack with a little clear pass case belly.
Can’t get enough of these fuzzy felines? Join the Felissimo Cat Club and get daily or weekly updates about new cat-themed products, vote on your favorite ideas, and enjoy helpful photography tips for that perfect catgram. Even better, your Cat Club membership gets you access and updates for the Wan Nyan Support Enterprise, a nonprofit dedicating to ending feline euthanasia in Japan for good. Nearly 35,000 cats are euthanized every year, through a combination of careless ownership and disaster relief. Through their efforts, we can make life better for our furry friends all over Japan!
