- Written by: Yotsuka Hizuki
For those looking for accessible and comfortable hotels around Kyoto Station.
For this issue, I, a Kansai-based travel writer well-versed in Kyoto introduce, 10 recommended hotels near the station that offer attractive services and delicious breakfast buffets.
Kyoto Station is one of Japan's representative terminal stations. The station building itself is known for its beautiful architecture and is popular as a tourist attraction. There are many famous sightseeing spots within walking distance, and as the gateway to the ancient capital of Kyoto, it attracts many visitors.

The three key points our travel writer emphasized when selecting hotels were:
- When traveling, I think it is a good idea to conserve energy by walking as little as possible. In an unfamiliar city, it's also important to be able to reach your destination without getting lost. For this article, I carefully selected hotels that are directly connected to the station, located in front of the station, or situated along easily recognizable streets.
- Hotels around Kyoto Station enjoy naturally convenient access to the rest of the city. On top of that, I chose places that offer unique hotel services and attractions.
- This is my personal opinion, but I think if you're coming all the way to Japan, you should try various delicious Japanese dishes! However, some people may not like Japanese food, or there may be days when you're simply not in the mood for it. That is why I highlight hotels with breakfast buffets that offer both Japanese and Western cuisine for this article.
Please find your favorite hotel that matches your travel style!
1. Hotel Granvia Kyoto
Premium comfort, right inside JR Kyoto Station, plus breakfast, pool, and fitness

- Directly connected to Kyoto Station and the closest hotel to JR Kyoto Station platforms, this is supremely convenient for sightseeing
- The building houses 10 restaurants, an indoor pool, and fitness facilities
- Offers exquisite dining and services for a luxurious stay

This luxury hotel is directly connected to Kyoto Station and is the only accommodation facility actually inside the world-famous JR Kyoto Station building. Despite being located within a busy station, the interior offers a calm atmosphere where you can enjoy a peaceful stay.
The spacious guest rooms come in 22 different types, including "Train View" rooms where you can see trains, "Tower View" rooms with views of Kyoto Tower, and "Choraku Suites" where you can enjoy Kyoto's unique scenery.
For breakfast, they offer a Japanese and Western buffet with about 70 different dishes, plus American breakfast and Japanese set meals. The hotel also features 10 restaurants, an indoor pool, fitness facilities, and comprehensive services including free Wi-Fi, luggage storage, and tourist information.

2. Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station
Just a one-minute walk from Kyoto Station, perfect for efficient, low-stress stays

- Directly connected to Kyoto Station, with views overlooking the Shinkansen and Kintetsu line platforms
- Simple and functional yet comfortable atmosphere
- Guest-exclusive lounge and coin lockers convenient for sightseeing

Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station is directly connected to Kyoto Station, merely a 1-minute walk from the Shinkansen and Kintetsu line ticket gates. This prime location is extremely convenient when you have large luggage or are traveling to multiple destinations.
The guest rooms are bright and simple, designed with comfort and functionality in mind. The Comfort Floor features original beds co-developed with Simmons.
While there are no restaurants in the building, breakfast is served at the guest-exclusive lounge "Chokotto Kyukeisho" (Quick Rest Area). The lounge can be accessed even after checkout, and free coin lockers are available from before check-in until after checkout. Not only is this convenient during sightseeing, but it also serves as the perfect rest spot while waiting for the Shinkansen. Since cafes and coin lockers around Kyoto Station tend to be crowded, I personally highly recommend this service!

Since Kyoto Tower itself is a tourist attraction, the building houses plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, and facilities where you can experience traditional Japanese dress. The observation deck stands 100 meters high—the tallest in Kyoto—offering 360-degree panoramic views of the city. The observation deck can be enjoyed until 21:00 (subject to weather conditions), and the hotel also features a sky lounge, making this hotel perfect for those wanting to fully enjoy romantic Kyoto night views.

Located about a 2-minute walk from Kyoto Station, this long-established hotel carries on the tradition of an older institution known as the Kyoto Station Hotel, founded in 1928.
The hotel features Kyoto traditional crafts throughout, including the "Kanjin no Kyoto Akari" (“Kanjin” means "important things" in Kyoto dialect) at the center of the lobby, and has won numerous awards for its space design.
Guest rooms are luxuriously appointed, with three types of suites available. Among the many hotels I have stayed at, what I found appealing about this hotel in particular was the opportunity to experience hospitality unique to an organization with a long legacy featuring well thought-out space.
The breakfast buffet features traditional Kyoto ingredients and includes sake tasting. The "Kyoto Ramen" that opens for just two hours in the evening is also popular. The hotel library allows guests to freely read books about Kyoto.

What's even more delightful are the free services provided in the hotel. After bathing, ice cream and lactic acid bacteria drinks are available, and at night you can enjoy "night ramen" (light soy sauce ramen served as a late-night snack). The "rest area" offers free manga rentals, making it perfect for experiencing Japanese subculture during free time.
The breakfast buffet features Kyoto-style menu items like "cold tea soba" with Kyoto Uji matcha gyokuro, as well as luxurious seafood bowls. A laundry corner is also available, convenient for extended stays.

- Enjoy Kyoto views at Japan's only revolving observation restaurant in a hotel!
- Rich variety of floor designs allows you to stay in rooms that match your preferences
- Indoor pool and fitness gym also available

Located about a 7-minute walk from Kyoto Station, this long-established hotel celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019. A monument to the Shinsengumi stands on the premises.
The 489 guest rooms offer a rich variety, including floor designs inspired by Japanese sweets, designs using traditional Japanese colors, executive floor designs, and other unique concept rooms.
The hotel houses 8 restaurants, with the highlight being "French Dining Top of Kyoto," Japan's only revolving observation French restaurant in a hotel, located on the 14th floor, at the very top of the hotel. Completing one rotation in about 90 minutes, you can enjoy 360-degree views of Kyoto along with course meals. For breakfast, you can choose from "Top of Kyoto," Japanese-Western buffet, or room service.
The hotel also features a pool and fitness gym. Nearby is the sister hotel "Rihga Gran Kyoto " featuring art and music themes, which is recommended for those wanting to enjoy a more sensitive space surrounded by art and music.
