(Spring 2021) New Hotels Open in Kansai! 3 Luxury Hotels With a Classy Feel
- Written by: Ran Tanaka
In spring 2021, a series of high-profile hotels will open in the Kansai region. Each of these, including the world's second hotel of famous Parisian brand Fauchon, will immerse you in luxury. In Japan, new ways of enjoying travel have recently emerged, with "staycations" and "workcations" becoming more widely accepted.
Whether for work or just as a place to get away from it all, here are three carefully selected luxury hotels that will be opening in Kansai this spring, perfect for life in the "new normal."
Fauchon Hotel Kyoto: The Second Luxury Hotel in the World by Fauchon from Paris
Since its establishment in 1886 on the Place de la Madeleine in Paris, "Fauchon" has been a grocery brand selling luxury pastries, macaroons, chocolates, jams, and teas.
Kyoto has been a sister city with Paris for over 60 years, and The Fauchon Hotel Kyoto is the second hotel in the world to open under this brand.
The concept of the Fauchon Hotel Kyoto is "FAUCHON Meets Kyoto. Feel Paris." When you arrive at the hotel, the grand staircase in the center of the entrance will make you feel as if you have stepped into the streets of Paris.
All 59 guest rooms are designed in a luxurious modern style that combines Paris and Kyoto, using both Western and Japanese materials and techniques to express the Fauchon brand colors of Fauchon pink, white, black, and gold. You can stay in a relaxing space, including a prestige suite on a high floor with a panoramic view of Higashiyama.
Restaurant Grand Café Fauchon, a French restaurant located on the hotel's top floor, uses fresh local ingredients for some of the menu items served at the Fauchon Hotel Paris, providing a French experience for the senses that can only be enjoyed here.
On the first floor, there is the "Páteisserie & Boutique Fauchon" where you can buy sweets and pastries. They have a variety of products imported directly from Paris that can only be purchased here in Japan. Also, some of the sweets sold in Paris will be reproduced by the pastry team in Kyoto.

W Osaka: A Sophisticated Hotel Designed by Tadao Ando
Marriott International's "W" brand of luxury lifestyle hotels was established in New York City in 1998. This spring in Osaka, the first W brand hotel, "W Osaka," will open.
Facing Midosuji, the main street that connects Osaka City's center from north to south, W Osaka has a total of 337 guest rooms. Each guest room is decorated with neon lights that resemble those of Dotonbori, a design that symbolizes the city of Osaka, so you can feel the bustle of the city during your stay.
By turning on the neon lights, you can enjoy the different looks of the rooms during the day and at night, and the room design is full of playfulness.
The vibrant lobby with its brightly colored interior features a playful atmosphere, including a stage with stand-up microphones used for manzai (stand-up comedy, one of the representative cultures of Osaka).
In addition, an all-day dining restaurant supervised by a chef from a famous restaurant that has earned a star in the "Michelin Guide" and was also ranked among the "50 Best Restaurants in Asia," is scheduled to be opened along with a patisserie and bar area collaborating with world-renowned chefs.
The design of W Osaka was supervised by Tadao Ando, a world-renowned architect from Osaka. With 27 floors above ground and one basement floor, the simple and stylish exterior is based on the color black and has minimal ornamentation, giving the image of a crystal body sharpened from a huge ore.

FUFU Kyoto: Japanese Style Luxury Hotel with 'Hidden Space'
FUFU, a small luxury resort of the Kato Pleasure Group, which operates luxury inns and hotels, is now available in Kyoto. Near Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto, "FUFU Kyoto" will open on the banks of the Lake Biwa Canal, which is designated as a national historic site.
The theme of the room is "hidden space." The bedroom peeking through the glass, the carpet reminiscent of Japan's four seasons, and the hand basin create a playful atmosphere.
The hinoki-scented hot spring baths in all 40 rooms are as liberating as an open-air bath when the windows are opened. The light from the lanterns in the bedroom leaks out, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
For meals, you can enjoy charcoal-grilled seasonal ingredients and fresh local Kyoto vegetables in the highly private space that is characteristic of FUFU. You can enjoy charcoal-grilled kaiseki cuisine that will satisfy even the most seasoned Kyoto connoisseur.
FUFU Kyoto has set up a concierge desk to offer travelers the opportunity to experience Kyoto's unique culture and encounter a new Kyoto. Depending on your stay style, they can assist you with consultations and reservations for ryotei (Japanese style restaurant), restaurants, and sightseeing.
