What is "teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM" in Toyosu, Tokyo?
teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM is an immersive art museum created by the renowned art collective teamLab, known for their innovative use of technology in art. This massive interactive space is a favorite not only among visitors in Japan but also with international tourists.
teamLab Planets Sees Major Expansion on January 22, 2025
On January 22, 2025, teamLab Planets expanded its space by approximately 1.5 times. This large-scale update includes exciting new areas, such as the Athletics Forest, a dynamic and interactive space themed around educational creativity, and the Catching and Collecting Extinct Forest where visitors can observe extinct animals up close. Additionally, the Future Amusement Park, designed for collaborative creativity, opened alongside over 10 new artworks.
Here’s an overview of what’s new.
New Area #1: Athletics Forest
The Athletics Forest is a new "creative physical space" designed to enhance spatial awareness under the concept of "perceiving the world through the body and thinking higher-dimensionally." Visitors can immerse themselves fully in an interactive world that stimulates both the mind and body.
Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres in the Caterpillar House
The Rapidly Rotating Bouncing Spheres exhibit features spheres that bounce when stepped on. Although the spheres rotate at high speeds, they stop spinning when someone approaches, making them safe and interactive for visitors to step on.
Multi Jumping Universe
The Multi Jumping Universe features a springy, stretchable floor where visitors can jump and bounce freely. The surface shifts and sinks beneath your feet, allowing for higher-than-usual leaps and a dynamic, playful experience.
Aerial Climbing through a Flock of Colored Birds
The Aerial Climbing exhibit features a three-dimensional space where ropes and bars float mid-air. Visitors navigate through this aerial environment by balancing on the bars, creating a thrilling challenge to avoid falling while moving through the space.
Balance Stepping Stones in the Invisible World
The Balance Stepping Stones are stepping stones that interactively change when stepped on. Each step produces a unique sound and subtly alters the surrounding environment. The stones sway in various ways, challenging visitors to maintain their balance while exploring the space.
Graffiti Nature
In this exhibit, creatures drawn by visitors come to life in a surreal, inverted, bowl-shaped world. Guests can sketch animals on paper, which are then animated and brought into the space, moving and interacting with their surroundings.
Sliding through the Fruit Field
In this vibrant exhibit, various fruits grow along a slope as colorful balls bounce around. Visitors become beams of sunlight, sliding down the slope to bring energy to the field and help the fruits thrive.
The Athletics Forest now features two new artworks: Autonomous Abstraction and Existence in the Flow Creates Vortices. These exhibits invite visitors to explore dynamic interactions and fluid movements within the immersive space.

New Area #2: Catching and Collecting Forest
The Catching and Collecting Forest is an innovative learning space where visitors can explore, discover, and capture creatures to broaden their curiosity. Equipped with a smartphone, participants can search for various animals, observe them up close, and build their own collection journal.
Catching and Collecting Extinct Forest – A Whole Year per Year
Using the Catching and Collecting Forest app, visitors can aim "Research Arrows" at animals visible in the space through the app's camera. When the arrow strikes, the animal disappears from the physical space and is added to your smartphone’s collection. Animals captured can also be released back into the environment by using the app, allowing them to reappear in the space. This interactive experience brings the joy of discovery and conservation into a single dynamic ecosystem.
New Area #3: Future Park
This educational project is an "amusement park" centered on collaborative creativity, or "co-creation." It invites visitors to freely create a world together with others, fostering shared experiences and collective imagination.
Participants work together to craft a single artwork, which continuously evolves as new visitors contribute to the ever-changing creative space.
Sketch Umwelt World
In Sketch Umwelt World, visitors can draw airplanes, butterflies, or hawks on paper and watch as their creations come to life in 3D. Once released, these drawings take flight in the interactive space, responding to touch by speeding up or flying away.
A Table where Little People Live
This interactive table is home to tiny, animated inhabitants. When you place your hands or objects on the table, the little people notice and climb onto them. Depending on the shape of the objects, they slide, jump, or climb, creating a playful and dynamic experience.
A Musical Wall where Little People Live
This interactive wall is home to tiny, animated inhabitants. By attaching stamps shaped like mushrooms, sheep pens, or long icicles to the wall, these objects appear in the little people's world. The inhabitants notice and climb onto them, adding a whimsical, musical touch to the experience.
A Window to the Universe where Little People Live
This "window" offers a glimpse into the universe inhabited by tiny animated beings. Using a light pen, visitors can draw lines that possess unique powers based on their color, influencing the little people's world. Pressing light stamps adds new elements to the universe, which come alive and interact with the inhabitants.
Turn Your Drawings into Products! "Sketch Factory"
The newly introduced Sketch Factory allows visitors to transform their drawings into personalized products. Create unique items like badges, hand towels, T-shirts, tote bags, or paper crafts to take home as a memorable keepsake.
Perfect for First-Timers and Returning Visitors
