Description
The Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium was built in 1926. It hosted the games of the Tokyo Big 6 Baseball League that year, and since then, the stadium has been known as the mecca for collegiate baseball games. Since 1964, the former Kokutetsu Swallows (now the Tokyo Yakult Swallows) has franchised the stadium as their home ground. Not only for baseball games, the stadium also hosts music concerts of well-known artists and serves as a venue for Jungu Gaien Hanabi Tiakai (also called the Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival), which takes place during August every year. The stadium was the first in the world to install a permeable artificial turf, and it has also implemented advanced technologies such as a scoreboard that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The distance from the right field to the left field is 97.5 meters, and the distance from the home base to the center field fence is 120 meters. The seating capacity of the stadium is 31,941. The stadium is a 5-minute walk from the Exit 3 of the Gaiemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. Also, it is a 12-minute walk from the Shinanomachi Station on the JR Sobu Line.
