Atami Kinomiya Shrine

熱海来宮神社

Description

It is said that this Atami's indigenous god will grant the earnest wishes of health, longevity, and even abstinence from drinking. The sacred tree, Okusu, that stands at the back of the main hall is 2,000 years old and has been selected as a natural monument. In Japan, disasters are likened to insects, and given that the Okusu has natural insect repellant qualities, amulets for avoiding disasters are sold on the grounds. At the grand hall, visitors can purchase amulets and charms for good luck, as well as enjoy beverages and sweets at the tea ceremony house. It is approximately a 3-minute walk from Kinomiya Station on the JR Ito Line; or from JR Atami Station, board a bus bound for Jukkokutoge or Nishiyama and disembark at the Kinomiya Shrine bus station. The shrine is right in front of the bus stop.
