World's First Pokémon Airport Opens in Japan This July

Date published: 18 May 2026

A Pokémon-themed airport is officially coming to Japan, and it is unlike anything fans have seen before. Starting July 7, 2026, Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture will temporarily transform into the world’s first airport to carry the Pokémon name: Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport.

Created as part of recovery support efforts following the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, the project combines tourism, art, and playful Pokémon experiences to bring smiles back to the region while giving travelers a brand-new reason to explore Noto.

The newly redesigned airport will remain open through September 2029 and features decorations and experiences found nowhere else in the world.

One of the biggest highlights is the dramatic open atrium on the second floor, where a giant floating Pikachu and airplane balloon welcome visitors overhead. Surrounding them are dozens of Pokémon soaring through the sky, creating the feeling of stepping into a Pokémon world mid-flight.

Even more impressive, the airport will feature decorations of all 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered as of May 2026. From the boarding bridges to entranceways and even airport signage, Pokémon appear throughout the terminal in playful and unexpected ways.

The airport’s original logo also incorporates motifs inspired by Poké Balls, Pikachu, the shape of the Noto Peninsula, and smiling travelers.

A Warm Welcome Inspired by Noto’s Recovery

On the first floor arrival lobby, visitors will find large-scale artwork based on Akarui Mirai, a special recovery-support illustration originally created in 2024 to encourage the people of Noto after the earthquake.

The colorful artwork evokes Noto’s natural scenery, while life-sized monuments of Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun greet arriving travelers.

Another original artwork created for the airport, titled Kibou no Sora (Sky of Hope), depicts Flying-type Pokémon soaring beneath shining rainbows and radiant skies. The piece symbolizes freedom, hope, and the excitement of setting off on a new journey. It will also appear on airport goods, decorations, and special buses around the region.

There are also several interactive experiences planned inside the airport.

At the observation deck called Pikachu no Satoyama, visitors will discover countless Pikachu gathered together among satoyama-inspired scenery. Look carefully, and you may spot other Pokémon hiding among them.

Guests can also watch three original short smartphone videos connected to the airport. One of them, Tobe! Tatsubay, follows a Bagon dreaming of flying through the skies. Inside the airport, visitors can find a monument showing Bagon gazing up at Salamence, linking the story to the real-world display.

Pokémon Pancakes, Drinks, and Exclusive Souvenirs

Hungry travelers can stop by the third-floor restaurant Restaurant Annon, where Pokémon-themed menu items will be available.

The airport plans to offer: two Pokémon pancake varieties, two Pokémon-inspired drinks, and special original placemats when ordering a pancake-and-drink set

Meanwhile, the second-floor shop Serendipity will sell exclusive airport merchandise featuring the airport logo and the Kibou no Sora artwork.

Items are expected to include T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, suitcase belts, and other travel-themed airport goods

(Some items may have purchase limits due to expected demand.)

Beginning in mid-July 2026, Pokémon-wrapped buses will also start operating around Ishikawa Prefecture.

One route will connect Kanazawa Station, Noto Airport, and Wajima via an existing express bus service, while a newly planned sightseeing loop bus will connect Pokémon-themed attractions around the peninsula.

Stops are expected to include:
Wakura Pokémon Footbath, which opened in Wakura Onsen on May 12, 2026
・The Sylveon with LOVE monument in Suzu

The sightseeing buses are expected to operate mainly on weekends, holidays, and during summer vacation periods.

Japan already has Pokémon buses, Pokémon manhole covers, and more, but this may be the most ambitious regional collaboration yet. Combining playful installations with meaningful recovery support, Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport transforms an ordinary airport into a destination of its own.

For Pokémon fans, families, and travelers looking to explore beyond Japan’s usual tourist routes, Noto may soon become one of the country’s most memorable new adventures.
