Why Travel Hands-Free in Japan?

Japan’s Tourism Agency and many travel guides encourage visitors to explore without large luggage. Rather than simply being an added luxury, hands-free travel can make getting around Japan’s busy cities considerably easier.

Travel Easier in Japan’s Transport System

Japan’s railway network is exceptionally convenient, but major stations can be large and difficult to navigate. Transfers may involve long underground passages, multiple levels, and crowded escalators or elevators. Carrying a large suitcase through these stations can be stressful, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.

Make the Most of Your Arrival Day

International flights often arrive well before hotel check-in begins. Sending your luggage ahead means you can start sightseeing, shopping, or dining immediately instead of making a separate trip to your hotel just to leave your bags.

More Freedom in Shops, Restaurants, and Attractions

Many cafés, restaurants, shops, and traditional buildings in Japan have limited space for large suitcases. Exploring without bulky luggage makes it easier to enter smaller venues and move comfortably through crowded sightseeing areas.

Large Coin Lockers Can Fill Quickly

Many major stations have large coin lockers that can accommodate suitcases, and some stations offer online guides for checking locker locations and availability. However, the number of large lockers is limited, and availability can change quickly, meaning they may be full by the time you arrive. Searching for another locker while carrying your luggage can also take valuable time away from sightseeing.

What Is SAGAWA Baggage Delivery & Storage?

SAGAWA counters have opened in the arrival areas of Narita Airport Terminals 1 and 2. They provide three main services.

・Temporary Luggage Storage: Leave your bags securely at the airport while exploring the surrounding area or waiting for your next journey.

Future Plans: Departure Counters

Similar to their luggage delivery service to Haneda Airport, SAGAWA plans to open counters in the Departure Lobby as well. Soon, you will be able to send your luggage from your hotel to Narita Airport, allowing you to enjoy your last day in Japan completely hands-free before your flight!
