Chiba City Folk Museum

千葉市立郷土博物館

Description

Having an exterior appearance that evokes a Japanese castle, the Chiba City Folk Museum, which employed a castle architecture, was opened in 1967, and the museum developed into a historical and folk museum as it is today through many renovations. From the first to the fourth floors are the galleries to exhibit the history of Chiba City since the Ritsuryo Period (the mid-7th to 10th century) to the modern times, and the Chiba clan, an illustrious family in the Kanto region, who made the foundation of the current Chiba City. In the second floor gallery, special exhibitions or feature exhibitions are held so that the visitors can learn further about the history of Chiba from various perspectives. For groups or school excursions, you can have a guided tour led by a volunteer with prior reservation two or more weeks in advance. The duration of the tour is about 30 minutes. From the fifth-floor observation deck, you can have a bird's eye view of the Chiba City. If you take the Chiba Urban Monorail from the JR Chiba Station and get off at the Kencho-mae Station and walk about 13 minutes, you will arrive at the museum. You can also arrive by car; there are free parking spaces with the capacity of 25 cars.
