Deer Antler Cutting Ceremony

This traditional custom has been carried out since the beginning of the Edo period, and takes place at a designated antler cutting area on the pathway to Kasuga Taisha Shrine. For each session, three to four deer are chased down, and ”beaters” use a saw to trim their antlers.
