Imamiya Jinja Shrine

今宮神社

Description

Imamiya Jinja Shrine is an old shrine that was built in the Heian period during a ceremony to appease the gods and assist in calming an epidemic. Its name originated from the phrase “Tama no Koji” which is a reference to the mother of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, Keishoin. While alive, she was referred to as “Otama”. The deity worshipped here is said to be her guardian deity.
