Description
Hirano Jinja is an old shrine that was moved from Nara Prefecture, known as Yamato at the time, when the capital was transferred from Nara to Kyoto. The enshrined god here is Kudo-no-kami who is the god of the kitchen hearth. This is why people in Kyoto may refer to their own hearths as “okudo-san”. The temple grounds have about 400 cherry trees across roughly 60 species which makes the shrine a popular spot in spring for nighttime cherry blossom viewing and the cherry blossom festival.
