Shogunzuka Seiryuden Temple

将軍塚青龍殿

Description

This burial mound is located at an enclave for Shoren-in Temple, one of the three Monzeki temples of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. Enjoy a view of the entire city of Kyoto from the summit of Higashiyama. When the capital was moved to Kyoto, Emperor Kanmu prayed here for peace for the capital. He then buried an armored clay shogun statue within the burial mound.
