Description
This thatched building was built by Jozan Ishikawa during the early Edo period. Ishikawa was a scholar who was known to be a man of taste. The temple has a simple, elegant charm to it and is surrounded by greenery. The garden is covered in a bed of white sand, beautiful throughout all seasons, with the plum blossoms in March and azalea blossoms in May being of particular note. Enjoy views of the garden accompanied by the clicking of the Japanese bamboo water fountain from the main room “Shisen no Ma”, which is where Shisendo Jozanji Temple gets its name from.
