Description
The origin of Konkai-Komyoji Temple is said to be when the Buddhist saint Honen descended from Mt. Hiei and built a thatched hut on the land. The temple is the head of the Jodo Shu sect (Pure Land sect) of Buddhism. In the mid-19th century, it was the location where the lord of the Aizu clan was stationed following orders from the Kyoto Shugoshoku. The three-storied pagoda is dedicated to the enlightenment of Hidetada Tokukawa and has been designated as an important cultural property of Japan.
