This forest is beautiful, but overrated. We visited it on a hot, humid day in May, and regretted not going to one of Kyoto’s less visited 1,600+ temples instead. Incredibly crowded with tourists...Visited May 2026 -

I had quite high expectations for the bamboo forest and the area in general. I think from pictures I'd seen, I kind of imagined it to be a bit more wild and remote than it actually is! Perhaps naive...Visited May 2026
