Description
Before the goddesses Amaterasu-Omikami and Toyouke-Omikami came to both reside at Ise Grand Shrine, Toyouke-Omikami was worshipped here, which is why this shine is called “Motoise” (Original Ise). Motoise Kono Shrine is the only shinto shrine of the eight countries that made up San’indo, mentioned in the Engishiki. It’s also ranked in the Ritsuryo (shrine ranking system).
