Boutique hotel brand TRUNK is expanding beyond Tokyo with TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO, set to open in central Sapporo on September 17, 2027.
The new hotel will bring together several standout experiences under one roof, including an 18th-floor urban bathhouse, a Sapporo outpost of acclaimed Sushi Saito, and interiors inspired by Hokkaido’s landscapes and traditional craftsmanship. Located in the heart of the Odori district, it is shaping up to be a noteworthy new luxury stay for travelers exploring Sapporo and the wider Hokkaido region.

TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO: Overview
- Opening:
- September 17, 2027
- Guest rooms:
- 107 total, including 89 standard rooms and 18 suites, including spa suites
- Expected rates:
- 60,000–600,000 yen per night
TRUNK(BATH HOUSE): A New Urban Spa Experience

One of the hotel’s biggest draws will be TRUNK(BATH HOUSE), an expansive spa located on the 18th floor.

At its center will be a roughly 40-meter-long water circuit connecting 10 different bathing experiences. Guests will be able to enjoy the area in swimwear, making it a more social and accessible take on Japan’s traditional bathing culture.
The facility will also include separate men’s and women’s large baths, high-temperature saunas, cold-water baths, and open-air relaxation spaces. Set high above central Sapporo, the bathhouse is designed as a destination in itself rather than simply another hotel amenity.
Sushi Saito Makes Its Sapporo Debut

Another major highlight will be Sushi Saito, which will open on the hotel’s 10th floor in its first Sapporo location.
The acclaimed Tokyo restaurant held three Michelin stars for 10 consecutive years and is widely regarded as one of Japan’s leading names in Edomae sushi. In Sapporo, its traditional techniques will be combined with Hokkaido seafood and local food culture to create a dining experience distinctive to the region.
For travelers visiting Hokkaido specifically for its seafood, the restaurant could become one of the hotel’s strongest attractions.
Guest Rooms Inspired by “Mid-Century Folklore”

The hotel’s guest rooms, located across floors 13–18, have been designed by architect Shin Ohori together with TRUNK Atelier.
The design concept is described as “Mid-Century Folklore,” blending the clean forms and restrained style of mid-century design with materials, textures, and details inspired by Hokkaido’s landscape and traditional craftsmanship.
Natural wood and warm, tactile finishes will help soften the contemporary interiors, creating spaces intended to feel connected to Hokkaido even while guests are staying in the center of one of Japan’s largest cities.
Dining, Drinks, and Social Spaces

All Day Dining: An all-day restaurant centered around seasonal ingredients from Hokkaido, highlighting the region’s produce throughout the year.

Lounge & Bar: A lounge featuring live piano and band performances. During winter, a transparent glass dome will cover the outdoor terrace, allowing guests to enjoy views of snowy Sapporo while remaining sheltered from the cold.

Private Studio: A flexible private space equipped for movie screenings, karaoke, parties, and other gatherings.
A Prime Location in Central Sapporo
TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO will be located in the Odori district of central Sapporo, within easy reach of Odori Park and the Tanukikoji Shopping Street.
For travelers, this means restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and many of Sapporo’s major central attractions will be close at hand. Odori Park is also one of the city’s main event spaces, hosting seasonal highlights including the famous Sapporo Snow Festival in winter.
The location also makes it relatively straightforward to connect with Sapporo Station and New Chitose Airport, while using the city as a base for exploring other parts of Hokkaido.

A New Luxury Base for Exploring Hokkaido
With only 107 rooms, TRUNK(HOTEL) SAPPORO is positioning itself as a relatively intimate luxury property rather than a large-scale city hotel.
Its combination of Hokkaido-inspired design, destination dining, and an unusually elaborate urban bathhouse could make it particularly appealing to travelers looking for a stay that feels connected to the destination itself.
With the opening scheduled for September 2027, it is one to watch for anyone planning a future trip to Sapporo or building a wider itinerary around Hokkaido.
