- Written by: Wemmy Chau
As the weather cools and autumn arrives, it’s time to indulge in one of Japan’s most irresistible seasonal fruits: Shine Muscat grapes. Often called the “queen of grapes,” these jewel-like green beauties are crisp, juicy, wonderfully fragrant, and especially tempting when transformed into elegant afternoon teas, cakes, and luxurious parfaits.
This fall, top hotels and popular dessert spots across Kansai are going all out with limited-time Shine Muscat creations. We’ve picked five must-try treats in Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Wakayama, perfect for adding a sweet seasonal stop to your autumn Japan itinerary.

1. Dusit Thani Kyoto: Where Thai Flavors Meet Luxurious Shine Muscat Sweets

Luxury Thai hotel brand Dusit Thani Kyoto is giving autumn a delicious twist with its seasonal Shine Muscat Afternoon Tea. Served in the elegant Dusit Gallery lobby lounge, the menu pairs the refined sweetness and fragrance of Shine Muscat grapes with distinctly Thai-inspired flavors.

The sweets include Shine Muscat Saint-Honoré, daifuku, and a fresh cream roll cake, but the savory bites are just as intriguing. Expect inventive combinations such as green curry arancini, sweet chili sauce, and kaffir lime leaf paired with Shine Muscat, alongside free-flow TWG Tea and organic tea from the hotel’s own tea garden. On weekdays, a limited-number Shine Muscat Parfait & TWG Tea Set is also available.

The centerpiece parfait is layered with plenty of fresh Shine Muscat grapes, delivering juicy bursts of flavor with every spoonful. The lineup also includes a classic Shine Muscat tart with crisp pastry and rich cream, sweet-tart Shine Muscat and cassis mousse, a fluffy fresh cream cake topped with large grapes, and smooth blancmange with Shine Muscat jelly. For grape lovers, it’s essentially an entire table of edible green gems.

Kobe Portopia Hotel’s Bellecour Tea Lounge is known for its soft natural light, soothing water features, and recognition by the Japan Tea Association as a certified spot for excellent tea. This fall, its Shine Muscat Afternoon Tea Set combines elegant presentation with plenty of seasonal indulgence.

The showstopper is a generous 5-cm-thick slice of Shine Muscat shortcake, layering delicate sponge, light fresh cream, and crisp, juicy grapes. The savory selection adds balance with prosciutto and grape salad, traditional northern Italian polenta, and an Italian sausage sandwich, making this a satisfying afternoon tea rather than sweets alone.

4. Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel (Wakayama): A Dreamy Late-Night Shine Muscat Parfait with Lavender

Looking for a more grown-up way to end an autumn evening? Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel is serving a romantic Shine Muscat Parfait with Lavender, featuring locally grown Wakayama Shine Muscat grapes alongside ingredients from Hokkaido.

At the bottom is tangy Hokkaido haskap berry jam, layered with Kawazoe black tea cream, rich vanilla ice cream, white wine jelly, and a delicate hint of lavender. Available until late in the evening, it makes an elegant shime parfait, Japan’s tradition of finishing the night with something sweet.

The Shine Muscat Tart pairs crisp, buttery pastry with the grapes’ fresh, fragrant sweetness, while the Shine Muscat Cake layers juicy fruit with fluffy sponge and smooth fresh cream.
