Osechi ryori are unique Japanese dishes eaten in the New Year, whose ingredients have auspicious meanings. This year, many famous restaurants and hotels are putting a new spin on their osechi courses. These include French and Asian versions designed to appeal to those who are not accustomed to traditional Japanese fare.
Here are five 2020 osechi dishes that you can actually order! In addition to the orthodox version, there are also fun ones themed around the animation "One Piece," osechi produced by "LeTAO," the famous western confectionery maker in Hokkaido, and other extravagant osechi dishes you surely will want to try out.

LeTAO is a western confectionery store based in Otaru, Hokkaido. It is known for its amazing cheesecake that melts in your mouth with the very first bite. It offers typical dishes and sweets in its extravagant Delica & Sweets Osechi.
The Delica-ju (Delica Box) is supervised by a skilled French chef who oversees the food menu at LeTAO. The original dishes are made with Hokkaido ingredients, giving them an authentic flavor.
The Sweets-ju (Sweets Box) is produced by three patisseries that represent LeTAO, and it is filled with original sweets that are only available here.

2. The French Osechi by Benoit Paris, a French Bistro That Has Been in Business for Over 100 Years
Bistro Benoit Paris was established in 1912 and has been in business for over 100 years. They have been produced by the master of French cuisine Alain Ducasse since 2005, and Benoit Tokyo in Tokyo Aoyama received 1 star from Michelin from 2016 to 2018.
Benoit Paris created the Benoit Parish French Osechi Six-Tiered Box and Three-Tiered Box.
It is an extravagant osechi where you can enjoy a full French course, ranging from hors d'oeuvre to dessert, in your own home. Its authentic Parisian flavor will make you feel as though you were eating in a restaurant there.
They have two types of osechi. The three-tiered version is a full course with 23 dishes, and the six-tiered version has 25 dishes with more expensive ingredients and more volume. Eating authentic food overseas is not always easy, so this is an osechi you will definitely want to try.

3. Enjoyed by the Whole Family! The One Piece Osechi Made in the Spirit of the Animation One Piece
This is a one-of-a-kind osechi collaboration between the mega-hit animation "One Piece" and the long-established osechi shop "Ichi Fuji." It is an osechi made with carefully selected ingredients with flavors that certainly everyone will enjoy.
The illustrative arrangement of the famous One Piece Osechi changes every year. The osechi with 31 dishes is made with two tiers; the first is the "Luffy's Meat Box" made after the main character Luffy who loves meat, and the "Pirate Seafood Box" based on the pirate character theme. The characters dressed in kimono give it an extra gorgeous feeling perfectly suited to the Japanese New Year.
Currently, the osechi is sold out, but there is a possibility that they may release a small number from mid to late December. 4. "Thai Cuisine Osechi" Developed by Thai Restaurant "coci" in Ebisu
The Thai cuisine restaurant in Ebisu, coci, created a new Thai-style original osechi which they call the "Thai Cuisine Osechi."
The osechi has 9 Thai-style dishes, such as the spiny lobster Kun Patpong Curry symbolizing the wish for longevity, the red and white som tam namasu (raw fish and vegetable vinegar dish) symbolizing a wish for peace, and the lemongrass kuri-kinton (mashed sweet potatoes with sweetened chestnuts) symbolizing a wish for good fortune. These gorgeous nouveau-style osechi are still made with meaning that conveys the New Year's mood.
It is reasonably priced, and recommended for those seeking something to add to their normal osechi or those bored with traditional New Years' dishes, who simply want to spice up their dining table.
