Kinryuzan Senso-ji Temple
First, pay a visit to Senso-ji Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo. After passing through the Kaminarimon Gate with its iconic gigantic red lantern, the Nakamise Shopping Street lined with unique shops sprawls out in front of you. If you go straight down this street, the main hall will come into sight. Give a solemn prayer, then go around to see other places such as the Five-Story Pagoda and Nio-mon Gate.

Lively Ameyoko
Ameya-Yokocho shopping district, commonly known as Ameyoko, developed as a black market after WWII. Today, it is a shopping district where you can buy products varying from groceries to clothes - all of them reasonably priced but of high quality. Around Tokyo Metro's Shin-Okachimachi Station there is a remarkable number of super discount shops and izakaya, Japanese-style bars. At the end of the year, the area is crowded with shoppers from various places. Buyers and sellers actively engage in bargaining.

Kiyomizu Kannon-do
Kiyomizu Kannon-do was built as a replication of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a popular tourist spot in Kyoto. The stage was made to overlook the Shinobazunoike Pond. It is a spot where you can get a fantastic view of a row of cherry blossom trees during the cherry blossom season. The pine tree making a loop was created in the image of a famous tree depicted in ukiyo-e pictures and considered a symbol of Edo 150 years ago.

Enjoy the Present and the Past
Asakusa and Ueno, Edo's downtown areas, were as busy and lively in the past as they are today. It almost seems as if there is a festival going on every day! It is not uncommon to find alleys with a nostalgic atmosphere just behind the skyscrapers. Why don't you look around the area, feeling the present and the past of Tokyo, as you drop by a cheap izakaya or eat the many unique snacks of old downtown Edo?
