LOFT Japan’s Top 7 Self-Care Items With a Distinctly Japanese Twist!
- Written by: HanaSara Ito
Japanese women are famous around their world for many reasons, not in the least for their meticulous self-care. A combination of a long history of perfection and attention to detail means Japanese skin and self-care routines are often emulated.
This often includes visits to masseuses, steam baths, and estheticians; but with stay-at-home orders keeping us inside, it can be hard to keep up with some of those routines.
Luckily for us in Tokyo, famous Japanese variety and stationery store LOFT has come out with a list of their top self-care products. Carefully curated, this list is full of handy devices to make sure you don’t have to fall behind those facial treatments you were so excited to get. Instead, a little elbow grease and a simple tool can go a long way towards a healthy body and clear face!
All of these items are available at the LOFT net store, as well as at select locations remaining open during COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.
1. Moe-saapo (Burn Support) Sports Girdle
These three-Quarter length shorts with tummy control offers three-way binding support to help improve posture and fat burning. Once going out is recommended again, use these as shapewear to suck in tummy bulge and clear underwear lines. The Moe-Saapo sports girdle goes for 3,036 yen plus tax per pair.
2. La VIE Secretly
This simple posture correction belt can be worn high on the back for those truly hoping to reset their back to the most proper position. This is a godsend for those spending a lot more time on their computers or hunched over a screen doing telework. This thin, breathable mesh is made to be worn over innerwear and goes for a very reasonable 1,925 yen for one posture correction belt.
3. Nyankoro Balls Leg Massager
This handy little leg massager is one of my personal favorite products on this list. With several little free-spinning balls evenly spaced throughout this handheld massager, this sweet little kitty loves to help!
Regular use on legs can help with the kind of detox and drainage you would normally go to a lymph node massage for-- who knows, maybe you’ll get so good at doing it yourself, you won’t need to go to a masseuse even when they open back up! At a very affordable 1,100 yen plus tax for one of these kitty friends, it’s a great present to get someone experiencing a quarantine birthday or special celebration!
4. SlimWalk Skinny Room Wear Leggings
SlimWalk is a well-established weight loss company in Tokyo specifically oriented towards compression and fat-burning clothing items, and this is one of their most popular products. These Room Wear Leggings are made with breathable and durable cotton and are made to be comfortable enough to sleep in, unlike many other compression leggings. This is great for those suffering from circulation problems, especially in the often sedentary days of COVID-19. One pair costs 3,608 yen plus tax.
5. Esteny Leg Heat Serum
Miss leg or lymphatic massages? Give yourself the experience of a hot and rejuvenating leg massage with this amazing serum, which uses salon ingredients like hot pepper extract and Vannilyl for a wonderful smell as well as a heating effect, further loosening the thick thigh muscles. This product also contains green coffee extract and hyuralonic acid, to further moisturize skin as well as exfoliate dead matter. Take a moment to loosen muscles and treat your oft-overlooked legs with a little love at an affordable 1,100 yen per bottle: far less than a spa treatment would put you back.
6. SIXPAD Facial Roller
With all these videoconference calls suddenly cropping up in our lives, it’s easy for us to forget how much work our face is naturally doing. Help reduce fatigue and tighten face lines with this metal face roller ergonomically designed to both easy to use and effective. At 19,800 yen, this is the most expensive item on the list, but it has a dedicated following as a beauty product and self-care tool.
7. Unazuki Exercise Neck Trainer
This unique neck trainer may look strange, but it’s actually part of a new series of tools made to combat smartphone fatigue. The unique stressors of our current situation make it difficult to stay away from our devices, but a few minutes a day with this trainer can help strengthen the muscles at the front of the neck, tightening facial lines as well as taking some of the load off the tense muscles at the back of the neck. Available for 2,178 yen per device, this is a product truly found only in Japan.
These products may seem a little funky for those not used to a home beauty routine, but try a couple out and learn why women all over Japan love to try these products. If you're in Japan, go to LOFT’s online store and pick up your choice today! (Or find a LOFT shop here for when you visit Japan!) Or all of them... we won’t tell!
