Who doesn't love a good deal? It's hard to describe that tingle of excitement we feel when we find perfectly usable goods at amazingly discounted prices for one reason or another - whether it's because they're slightly scratched, unused stock from an older model number, or something else!
And because sharing is caring, we're going to share three of our top picks from the abundance of electronics stores in Tokyo that mainly feature such products!
1. Bic Camera Ikebukuro Higashiguchi Outlet Store
The Bic Camera Ikebukuro Outlet Store is located just outside the east exit of Ikebukuro Station. The basement level and first to third floors of this building are collectively a Bic Camera outlet store, while the fourth to fifth floors contain a Sofmap outlet store. This is a typical urban outlet store where the entire building offers incredible products at outlet store prices.
Almost everything you can think of is being sold here - from food products to Japanese sake, medicine, mobile phones, TV sets, microwave ovens, and plenty of other electronics.
You'll find home appliances like rice cookers, vacuum cleaners, and hair dryers on one floor, and then smartphones, office equipment, suitcases, and other productivity tools on another - a testament to the wide variety of goods being carried. If you're wondering why these virtually mint condition products are being offered at such discounted prices, it's usually due to reasons that has nothing to do with the quality of the goods themselves.
These are probably new stock of products that are one version older than the latest model on the market; display units from Bic Camera stores all over Japan; devices that didn't fit properly for installation and were returned without ever been used; or faulty sets that have been refurbished by the manufacturer and are now as good as new.
As for prices, you'll find items here going for 20% to 40% lesser than their recommended retail prices. Refurbished former display units are the main draw of this outlet store.
Since these household appliances or video equipment were only used as a showcase at retail stores, they're all still in great condition and thus very popular among shoppers. What's more, they also qualify for tax-free treatment!
For products like TV sets, some of the newer display models make it to outlet stores relatively faster than expected and are among the more sought-after products because of their very reasonable prices. Don't forget to check out other essentials and quality items like watches, branded goods, and perfumes while you're there!
Electronics aren't the only things being sold at this outlet store - there's a dazzling array of household goods, foodstuff, and sundries as well. As mentioned at the outset, the Bic Camera outlet store occupies the first to third floors of the building and sells home appliances, medicine, toiletries, cosmetics, foodstuff, and miscellaneous sundries.
On the fourth to fifth floors of the same building is the Sofmap outlet store, which deals mainly with games, anime, figurines, and specialized subculture goods of a similar nature.
Medicine and foodstuff are said to be among the more popular items tourists buy home as souvenirs.
Most items in the building can be checked out at the same cash register whether they're from Bic Camera or Sofmap, so just take your time and browse through each floor at your own leisure.
As is to be expected at outlet stores, products are cycled in and out at a tremendous speed, so if you find something you really, really like, there's probably no time to sleep on it - get it right away or you may never see it again!

2. Yodobashi Keikyu Kawasaki Outlet Store
Yodobashi Camera's Keikyu Kawasaki Outlet Store takes in display units from Yodobashi Camera retail stores and puts them up for sale at outlet store prices after maintenance.
Mini trivia: This is the only Yodobashi Camera outlet store in Japan! In terms of retail space, it's the smallest of all Yodobashi Camera stores, with just one floor with products as far as the eye can see.
Being able to take in everything at one glance, however, is certainly a convenient feature for any eagle-eyed deal-seekers!
Products here are display units taken from other Yodobashi Camera retail stores. The products are professionally refurbished by specialized staff before being put out for sale. The main bulk of the products here are display units one model behind the latest model on the market currently. You may also find current model units with cosmetic defects or brand new stock of items one version number or model behind the latest - all being sold at outlet prices.
Items here will cost 20% less than their final prices. As with all of Yodobashi's other products, you get back 10% of the product price as Yodobashi Camera points, although the percentage may differ from product to product. Some of the products being sold here are latest models also being sold in regular Yodobashi Camera stores, and these items will be retailed at the same prices as other stores.
Since outlet store products are mainly items that were used as display units, some of them may have slight cosmetic defects such as scratches or blemishes. As such, outlet store products are only being offered to walk-in shoppers.
This allows potential customers to examine the product personally and decide whether the defects on the items are acceptable to them. It also means you won't know what sort of products are being sold at the outlet store until you step inside, making it like a treasure hunt of sorts! All outlet store items come with manufacturer warranties, but are not eligible for Yodobashi Camera's extended warranty.
Stock is available as is, although there may be multiple items of the same older model available during new releases season, allowing you to check for and select the best-looking one - a thrilling experience that can only be enjoyed when shopping at outlet stores such as this one!
Products the store deals with
Digital single-lens reflex cameras, mirrorless single-lens reflex cameras, lens, compact digital cameras, high-definition video cameras, LCD TVs, Blu-ray recorders, Blu-ray/DVD players, projectors, portable audio players, boomboxes, stereo systems, audio equipment, home theaters, car GPS, refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, rice cookers, kitchen appliances, air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, telephone sets, fax machines, air-conditioners, beauty care products, laptop computers, desktop computers, tablets, PC monitors, electronic dictionaries, and many others.
Here are some products recommended by store staff (as of August 2018). As these former display units are only available as is, sales are brisk and it's literally "blink and you'll miss"! You'd be very lucky to find the exact item you're looking for, but it's definitely not impossible!

3. Yamada Denki Minamisuna Outlet Store
Yamada Denki Minamisuna Outlet Store is known for having both secondhand goods and outlet products at low prices. This includes items that have gone out of production, older models of devices, goods with cosmetic defects, and display units.
On the second floor, you'll find an impressive collection of large home appliances like air-conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators as well as kitchen appliances such as electric stoves, toasters, rice cookers, and others.
Head up one more floor to the third floor to find home lifestyle electronics such as TV sets, computers, cameras, games, audio equipment, and other related accessories (part of the 1st floor is the parking lot).
Don't forget the secondhand items! The main bulk of this part of the store contains refrigerators, washing machines, and TV sets, all of which are quality equipment that have been cleaned, refurbished, and confirmed to be in good working condition at the company's factory.
These are items that may have been traded-in for a newer model or products that were returned because they didn't fit properly into the original buyer's house. Although not in sealed condition, these units are still as good as new and especially popular among students or foreigners who will be staying in Japan for the short-term. TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines sold here all come with a two-year warranty - even the secondhand ones!
Products in this store are roughly 20% cheaper than what they usually go for at normal retail shops. The outlet store sees traffic from many foreign visitors, especially from India, China, and Taiwan. These visitors have usually heard about the outlet store through word of mouth from friends or other sources.
Winning the title of most popular item among foreigners by a landslide is the versatile thermos flask - especially products from Japanese manufacturers like TIGER. Many also buy thermal soup mugs as souvenirs.
For those who will be staying in Japan for a longer period of time, we recommend the air-conditioners here as well. These products are older versions from just one or two years ago, so you can definitely find something high-end at a steal! The products on display here are often off-season as well, so if you're looking to prepare for upcoming seasons with good deals, this outlet store will be perfect for your shopping needs!
"I often recommend these high-performance hair dryers to customers," a store clerk who is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese tells us. "In my experience, items that visitors can bring home easily like car air purifiers and Plasmacluster air purifiers from Sharp are very popular as well."
The shop is designed in a way that is welcoming to casual shoppers who may simply wish to drop in for a quick browse - much like how it is for supermarkets. And if they happen to find a good deal, it's a pleasant surprise indeed!
Because people of all ages visit the outlet store, the atmosphere here is that of a friendly neighborhood electronics shop. Needless to say, this outlet store is here to stay for a long time to come!
