For independent travelers, transportation is often one of the biggest challenges when visiting Tokyo. Simply understanding the city’s train and subway maps can feel overwhelming at first. Many visitors choose a Suica IC card for convenience, but there are also smarter options that can help you save money.
One of these is the Toei Subway One-Day Pass, which costs just 700 yen. In addition to unlimited rides on the Toei Subway, it also covers the nostalgic Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line), the Nippori–Toneri Liner, and Toei buses. With a single ticket, you can efficiently explore many well-known Tokyo sights in a short time. So which attractions can you reach, and how should you plan your routes to get the most value? Let’s take a closer look.

The Toei Subway operates several different transportation services. Depending on your itinerary, you can choose the pass that best fits your travel needs. Below is an updated overview of the main discount passes and their latest prices.

Choosing the right ticket based on your route can significantly reduce transportation costs while making travel around Tokyo smoother and more flexible.
So how should you plan your itinerary to get the most value out of these passes? Let’s take a look at some smart route ideas that help you make the most of your ticket.

The Toei Transportation Bureau currently operates four different types of transport services. Each has its own unique character, adding variety and flexibility to your Tokyo itinerary. Below, we introduce must-visit spots by category to help you plan routes that make the most of Toei transportation.
Toei Subway
The Toei Subway consists of four lines: the Shinjuku Line, Oedo Line, Asakusa Line, and Mita Line. Among them, the Oedo Line is especially convenient for sightseeing, as it connects classic downtown areas with popular districts such as Aoyama, Roppongi, and Shinjuku. The Asakusa Line is also a key route for visitors, stopping at Higashi-Ginza, Nihombashi, and Asakusa, and serving Oshiage Station, the closest subway stop to Tokyo Skytree.
Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line)
This is Tokyo’s only remaining streetcar line, running between Minowabashi and Waseda (12.2 km with 30 stops). During cherry blossom season, the nostalgic tram cars passing through tree-lined streets create especially atmospheric, distinctly Japanese scenery.
Toei Bus
Toei buses operate throughout central Tokyo, traditional downtown areas, parts of Edogawa Ward, and sections of the Tama area. With an extensive network of routes, they provide easy access to many sightseeing spots in both central and old-town Tokyo, often reaching places that are less convenient by train.
Nippori–Toneri Liner
This is a fully automated, computer-controlled transit system running between Nippori and Minumadai-shinsui-koen (9.7 km with 13 stations). Riding on its elevated tracks offers a unique perspective of Tokyo that feels quite different from subways and buses.
Next, let’s take a look at some recommended sightseeing spots located along Toei transportation lines.

Tokyo Skytree combines sightseeing with shopping and dining, making it easy to spend several hours in the area. For those who want to see both Tokyo Tower and Skytree at once, the Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills offers panoramic views from the 52nd floor. Finally, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku features a free observation deck on the 45th floor, making it a must for budget-conscious travelers.
