Ueno Asakusa dori Shinbutsugusemmontengai

上野・浅草通り神仏具専門店会

Description

Many specialized kamidana and butsudan stores began on Asakusa-dori Street in Ueno, where many shrines and temples stood in the Edo period (1600s). Afterwards, the area was ruined by wartime air raids and business declined. However, after reconstruction, an association was formed around 1955 consisting of three business areas: butsudan and accessories (bustugu), kamidana and accessories (shingu), and mikoshi (portable shrine) and festival accessories, near Ueno, Inaricho and Tawaramachi Stations, respectively. The logo for Shinbutsugu Street was designed based on the theme of “gods and Buddha” and “prayer,” encouraging people to respect the Japanese tradition of thanking ancestors in their daily lives. Events include incense-making and a walking tour. A 10-15 minute walk from JR Ueno Station, Inaricho Subway Station or Tawaramachi Station.
