The museum is like a theme park where you can enjoy an operation experience and appreciate the display of the largest model railroad diorama in Japan and a real 36-carriage train.
Take the New Shuttle from the JR Omiya Station to the Tetsudo-Hakubutsukan Station, then it is a one-minute walk from the station. It is a museum where you can learn, through hands-on experience, the railway technology; transitions in the systems; and the history from the early Meiji era, when the Japanese railway started, to the present. What attracts the most attention in the building is the model railroad diorama. As a diorama using railways as the theme, it is one of the largest in Japan. Other than the exhibition, there are many attractions such as a laboratory where you can experience ticketing and designing of trains, simulators of a steam locomotive, the JR trains, and bullet trains, and operator experience workshops. There is also a miniature operating train that you can operate on the track with a length of approximately 300 meters outside of the building, so it is a facility that adults and children can enjoy together. In the building, there are restaurants where you can relax and a museum shop that handles original goods as well. As for the explanatory note on the exhibits, English, Chinese, and Korean versions are available via the QR codes or explanatory cards.
