Description
This Japanese house is a piece of modern architecture built in 1919 using a combination of traditional Japanese construction techniques, modern Western technology, and the Japanese industrial engineering technology of the Taisho era (1912–1926). In 1998, it received a Cultural Property designation for being part of Tokyo's scenic beauty. The Yasuda family occupied the house until 1996, when it was donated to the Japan National Trust (public wealth) to fulfill the wishes of Kusuo Yasuda's bereaved family members to show the house and for it to be appreciated by many people, then the restoration and maintenance of the property began. It has been open to the public since 2007 (Wednesdays and Saturdays only). There are English leaflets and English guides are available upon advanced request. Also you can rent and use the elegant building or the garden privately. You can enjoy the semi-Western house, which has a Western-style living room, for example, in shoin-zukuri, a Japanese architectural style employed in residential construction. It is a seven-minute walk from the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line's Sendagi Station. Alternatively, it is a fifteen-minute walk from the JR (Japan Railways) Nishi-nippori Station or Nippori Station.
